What a wonderful contest. I know which pattern I'd like to use and have almost everything I need except for one key notion.

I have just one question. If you've won a PR contest in the past six months will you be permitted to enter this one?

I think this is a really fantastic idea! It's too bad for me that I think almost all those patterns are such a snooze (the BWOF being the exception).

How radically would you be allowed to alter them if your tastes run a little more towards a couture-like look, and you don't mind fussing over fitting?

I think I can see some potential in a few of them but would end-up overhauling the drafting, which I would understand being inappropriate for the contest.

Oh, and is it open to people outside the US?

Echoing Brocadegoddess's query re residency! If it isn't open to people outside the US, maybe we can talk Deepika into arranging the same thing with the Canadian Creativ Festival. CSNF
Just a thought for the future Deepika!

I am curious about the modification thing too. All of these patterns are for knit garments except for the V2925 which is out of print.

I don't see why anyone shouldn't be able to modify a pattern. There's nothing stated in the contest rules that forbids modifications. In fact, one of the prizes in other categories is for most creative. I modify my patterns all the time to get them to fit me and change details so they suit my figure.

I'm very interested in this contest, I hope there is no rule about being a US resident. However, if they make it US _citizen_, then I'm in

Or make an international competition... there's a lot of people not in North America

PatternReview is a global community and since this is OUR contest there is no restriction of country lines. We ARE patternreview so anyone can join. The only thing to make sure is if your garment is chosen as one of the finalists you will need to mail it to the US and pay for us to mail it back too. And will have to take into account the shipping time. But you still have plenty of time.

Even if you've won a contest on PR before you are eligible to join.

I realize that the patterns in the list are not really super fancy but the point of the top 10 list is they are all pattern which were heavily reviewed and appealed to a LOT of people.

And yes, I can see no harm in modifying the pattern as long as it is at least recognizable as the original pattern. That means that the fitting seams should not be changed.

Connie, I'll look into that festival.
