I hope this hasn't already been done....

Whenever I read a review from someone who appears to have the same body type (and fitting woes) as me, I save them as a favorite reviewer. It would be nice if we had a 'body type catalog' that we could go through and 'shop' for people who have body types similar to us so we could watch for their reviews. So I thought - why not start a thread with body measurements and see how many people respond.

So I'll be the sacrificial lamb - here goes!

Height - 5' 2"
Weight - 123lbs
High Bust - 34
Bust - 36.5"
Waist - 29"
Hip - 35"
I'm longer in the legs and shorter in the torso so I have to shorten the torso of my patterns but the lower half is usually okay.

UPDATE - forgot bust size! I am a D cup bust and I have 6" between my bust & waist.

Next??

deb - I'm aspiring to be your measurements!

Okay, here's mine:

Height - 5'2"
Weight - 133lbs.
Bust - 37
Waist - 28
Hips - 37

Based on my measurements, I consider my body type to be an Hourglass. I have a short legs (28") and am average in my torso. I typically have to hem RTW pants and shorten the leg / skirt length of patterns. Of the blouses/tops I've constructed, I haven't had to make many changes; although I do feel I have broad shoulders. I'll let you know more about top alterations as I progress into more of that kind of sewing.

So, who's next?

This is a great idea! Here we go:

Height - 5' 4"
Weight - 136lbs
Bust - 40"
Waist - 31"
Hip - 38.5"
My legs are 41" from my natural waist to the floor. I have 6" from bust to waist. I'm both high and short waisted with a sway back (so I should maybe learn how to do that swayback adjustment everyone keeps talking about. Bra size is 36C

What a super idea. Deb you and I are very close to being "doubles": 5'2-125 pounds- Bust 36 1/2, Waist (on a good day) 29, Hips 36. I'm also longer in the leg than in the torso. I make short waisted petite adjustments to almost everything. Some things I have to do the "above bust" petite adjustment. Also do narrow shoulder and foward shoulder adjustments. Oh let's don't forget our cup sizes! I'm a 34D. Full Bust Adjustments on just about everything.

I get emails all of the time saying that we have similar body types. Here are mine

Height - 5'9"
Weight - 168 lbs
Bust - (high - 36") (full - 40")
Waist - 31"
Hip - 42"
Bra - 36D

My alterations: I normally cut a size 14 in the Big 4 in tops & jackets. I also cut a 14 in dress bodices. I cut a 16 in bottoms. For dresses, longer jackets and coats, I grade up to a 16 at the waist and through the hips.

I lengthen EVERYTHING. I lengthen most bodices at the waist. I lengthen sleeves, definitely pants and skirts and dresses.

I also usually make some sort of gaposis adjustment for pants.

Height: 5'7"
Weight: A very fit 131. Most people peg me at 120, but I'm actively weightlifting.
Hight Bust: 33 1/2"
Full Bust : 37"
Waist: 28 1/2
Hips: 37
Bra: 34C

Special figure notes: I'm very shortwaisted between the bust and waist with long legs and a pant inseam of 34". A typical Barbie doll proportion minus the tiny waist.

On any given day, however, the measurements can fluctuate up to 1".

Deb,

I posted the same thoughts a while back. It would be great to change the review template to include this *OPTIONAL* info. It would be SO helpful to identify my figure-type sisters.

ryan's mom,

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Deepka could make a measurements data base that would allow you to search for gals with your similar measurements? I guess having a thread about it is the next best thing.

I'd like to see the measurements compared to the big 4 envelopes and their Sizing, which seems to be hit or miss.

To you who have knowlege of the industry, WHERE do these come from? Some run too large and some too small compared to the inches listed on the packages. A lot of us buy them and adjust fit because they are the only companies that have substantial sales. I don't want to pay $15 for a pattern I might use once.

If you look at Pattern envelopes from years past, the Sizing has all changed. Is it like RTW where they want us to think we're all getting closer to Size 2?!
