Date: 7/1/09 5:07 AM Hi all. I'm starting this topic to see what sort of interest there might be in a European/Scandinavian sewing retreat in 2010. Reading about Ann S's retreat on her blog and Åsa's weekend sewing with friends got me wishing for a week long sewing retreat here in Scandinavia. Or in Europe, anyway.
I think Norway or Sweden (Sweden is lower-cost) could be quite ideal, as we could book a group in to one of our very reasonable mountain or coast "cabins"/guesthouses
Norway: trekking not obligatory or Sweden: coastal hostels as well.
Those who wanted to could go for walks from time to time to work out the sewing kinks from their backs.
I'm thinking we could do little sessions with talks/and or demonstrations to share something of our various sewing experiences or other fiber related or other creative endeavors. Other than that, we would bring our machines, set up a conference room and sew, sew, sew. Talk and maybe drink some wine occationally.
I may be weird, but this would be something of an ideal vacation for me. What about all of you?
BTW, this is not to be confused with the very venerable European PR weekend, wich is a fabricshopping and citysightseeing event. Not to be missed if at all possible. |

Date: 7/1/09 9:56 AM I'd love to come to a sewing retreat--don't know if it's possible, with cost of airfare to Sweden and a very uncertain job market here in the US-- but if I COULD join in, I'd need to either rent a sewing machine or just do hand sewing. I've always wanted to see Stockholm, so the retreat could possibly be combined with a weekend there... And yes, this sounds like an ideal vacation.

Date: 7/1/09 10:17 AM When I read about the sewing retreats in the US I also thought that I would like something like that. Really don't know yet whether I could make it a week to Sweden next year, but I would sure love it. ------ http://sigridsewingprojects.blogspot.com/ |

Date: 7/6/09 5:08 PM I can arrange it in Malmo if you are interested. The house there I live has a local we who live here can rent by day for I think 100 or 200 crowns. ( 10-20 euro) It can seat about 40 people so plenty of room for sewing. and there´s a youth hostal across the street for affordable housing.
Malmo is a great costal town with a beach in the city ------ www.karinskammare.blogspot.com |

Date: 7/6/09 5:13 PM I was going to write more about the advantages of living in Malmö but clicked too early. We lack good fabric stores unfortunately but Copenhagen is 45 minutes away from my door. ------ www.karinskammare.blogspot.com |

Date: 7/7/09 8:46 PM It's up to you guys in Scandinavia... If we make it in the spring, then the bra makers cruise is definitely out for me, not that I was actually planning on going on the cruise...but that shouldn't stop anyone else!
Karin - what is Malmö like in the Spring? Also, do you know of any bead stores there where I could do a demonstration and book signing and perhaps a workshop? That way I can write the whole trip off as a tax deduction... ------ http://annikaatelier.blogspot.com/ |
