Anyone in SanAntonio or Schertz, Cibolo, New Braunfels or other surrounding areas who can help me find a good fabric store? The only ones I have seen have been quilting stores and the very small Hancocks and the JoAnns in town. I need a good independent sewing fabric store. Got any suggestions?

I've been to one in Houston (w/"Peggy L"), but can't remember the name. I hear there are some good ones in Dallas (according to "poorpigling"), and we have talked about having a get together there. That's a good 4.5-5 hours drive for you. Might be some in Austin, but I have not been to them. Ask "Leslie in Austin" about them if you want as that's only an hour from you, border to border.

Sadly, you will have to take up the "non-feely" online sites like most of us. I only have a JA left and they don't seem responsive to sewing fashionistas other than quilters....

I lived in San Antonio for five years and never found a decent fabric store. I would occassionally stop by the Hancock Fabric's on Bandera Rd. or the Joann's in the Crossroads Mall.
They have recently built a Joanns Superstore, but I haven't been in it yet.

I shop at the Hancocks on Bandera and on San Pedro, and also at the JA at the Crossroads (410 and I-10), but rarely find anything very nice. I buy everything I can there, though, because I want to encourage them to stock nice things. There used to be an independent fabric store here, but it was mostly synthetics for formal events - it closed a year or so ago.

The closest fabric store that I get excited about is Silk Road in Austin, but I haven't ever actually bought there yet. Overall, Austin has fewer fabric stores than SA, I understand (hope I'm wrong).

Good yarn stores? Quilting stores? Yes. Fabric stores? No.
