I am looking for a pattern for a sewn fabric knitting needle holder. It is a big flat fabric circle with layers of circles sewn on top, the stitching forms seams (picture spokes on a wheel) and circular needles and perhaps regular needles are stored in the pockets formed between the spokes. When filled, the wheel can be folded up (when it then looks like one quarter of the pie or wheel).

I am not sure I have described this well. I think I have seen silverware caddies that are similar. I don't knit and so I am not sure if there are special measurements for the various pockets. Does anyone know if this is a published pattern? I would like to make one for my avid knitting friend. Thanks for any suggestions.

Charmaine

You know, in looking at your profile, this would be a relatively easy thing for you to make without a pattern. Just make your circle large enough to hold needles, and make the distance between the needle holes large enough to hold a size 17 needle. I've made needle cases, but in a different design. The largest needle I own, a size 17, fits into a 3/4" (1.9 cm) pocket, and the smallest fits into one fourth of that size. Then double stitch where you want the "pie" to close. That extra weight should fold it together.

I'd be happy to help, if you need it.

Thanks, Beth. I am glad you understood what I was saying! The pocket sizes were the biggest concern so your tips are really appreciated. I DO NOT knit, and my friend is in California and I am here. I know when we saw this caddy in the yarn shop, she said it was great as it holds circular needles too. (I imagine they go in the biggest pockets nearest the edge of the circle.) If you could tell me what the length of the size 17 needle is, that would be the distance from edge to center for my circle. Thanks!
