Date: 7/28/09 8:32 AM I will be managing the Pattern Stash Contest. The Contest Committee has put together the following rules. If you have any questions or need clarification, please let me know. I am here to help.
Pattern Stash Contest
August 1 to September 30, 2009
This contest is your chance to use all those patterns you've been collecting but haven't had the opportunity to use yet.
1. Enter only those items which have been sewn from patterns which are in your stash AND you haven't used these patterns before. The idea is to encourage each other to use those patterns we bought but never used.
2. You can enter apparel or craft items as long as you SEW them.
3. Pattern Stash is defined as the patterns you have in your possession prior to 1 month ago or longer before the contest starts, as best you can recall. In other words, the pattern must have been in your stash prior to July 1st, 2009.
4. You may only enter one item from each pattern. The goal here is to try different patterns that we have not used before.
5. Since this is a pattern stash contest, patterns should be new, unused, prior to the start of the contest. Fabric may be prepped, preshrunk, however patterns should be untouched.
6. Downloaded patterns or self drafted patterns may be used providing they were downloaded or drafted prior to July 1, 2009.
7. Patterns from BWOF, Patrones, KnipMode, Ottobre, etc may be used providing the issue of the magazine is June '09 or earlier. However, you may only enter 4 garments, of distinct types, from any one issue, and they must be patterns you haven't made before. The goal here is to open and use as many issues as you have.
8. For each item made from an unused pattern, give yourself one point. Winner will be the person who uses the most number of patterns.
9. Submitted item must be started on or after August 1st, 2009 and completed and reviewed by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on September 30th, 2009. Pictures are required for voting.
Clarifications:
-If you ordered a pattern June 30th but it doesn't arrive until mid-July, you may not use it for this contest. Patterns must be in your possession, not the possession of the Postal Service.
-Vintage patterns that you've purchased but not used will count. The fact that some previous owner may have used the pattern already is irrelevant to this contest.
-The template for item entry will ask for yardage used. You may enter the yardage, however it will have no bearing on the winner. The winner will be determined by the number of items entered.
*Rules that apply to all contests:
1. Contests begin on the 1st of the month, and all reviews must be entered for submission by midnight Eastern Time on the last day of the month.
2. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.
3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!
4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.
Contest Eligibility
1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter. Same eligibility for voting.
2. Any member who's won a prize (1st or 2nd place) in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous six months is ineligible to win another contest for a period of 6 months."
Prizes
First Prize: online class + pattern of the winners choice
Second Prize: pattern of the winners choice -- Edited on 8/23/09 6:57 PM -- ------ Bonnie

Date: 7/28/09 1:42 PM OK, I'm in. All these unused patterns are like voices jabbering in the back of my head. I need to quiet them and maybe this will motivate me! Next page>> |

Date: 7/28/09 4:37 PM I'm in, too. Here's hoping I can get through way more than my goal of five. I have sooooo many unused patterns!
Too bad this didn't start today -- I just cut out ironing board covers from a pattern in my stash that's dated 1967! I'm sure I've never used it before. Well, I guess there wouldn't be a prize for the length of time the pattern has sat unused in your stash anyway. But still!

Reply to Joan1954 Date: 7/28/09 4:47 PM It's nice to know that ironing boards haven't changed size since 1967, wish I could say the same!
I hope I force myself to participate in this contest, I still have about 5 things from the 01-2009 BWOF that I've been meaning to make. Yet there lies the issue, all but 2 patterns not even traced; I even have the fabric already bought for 3 of the patterns! Lately I've found the only thing that motivates me is a contest deadline. ------ Sewing is my therapy! Next page>> |

Date: 7/28/09 4:48 PM I'm lucky I still have enough patterns left uncut to keep me occupied. >.< I really need to take up knitting over my lunch break instead of cutting patterns out.
One more question; Marfy's. They arrive precut in a folded little packet. How would those qualify if they do at all? ------ 2005- 38.10m
2006- 252.90m
2007- 433.90m
2008 - 665.09m
2009 - 487.54m
I own a kilometre. Almost finished a second.

Date: 7/28/09 4:50 PM I've just taken pics of my unused patterns... well, I think I may have a problem. I live vicariously through patterns.
I need a black jacket, blouse, skirt, jeans, and a vintage dress!! 5 items, and I think I'm biting off more than I can chew.
In point 7) What does it mean exactly that we can only make one of each "type".
Does this mean that if I make 3 tops only one will be considered for the garment count?
Also If the pattern is a jacket and skirt, and we make both, only one piece will be counted? -- Edited on 7/28/09 4:54 PM -- ------ "Style is a simple way of saying complicated things"

Reply to Reverie Date: 7/28/09 4:52 PM Reverie, I think the Marfy patterns would fall under this rule:
"5. Since this is a pattern stash contest, patterns should be new, "unused, prior to the start of the contest. Fabric may be prepped, preshrunk, however patterns should be untouched. " ------ Sewing is my therapy! Next page>> |

I think that's only talking about patterns from the same issue of a magazine. The way I read that rule (see below) is that if you use more than one item from the same issue, they should be different types of items.

Me, too! I have never been shaped much like an ironing board, mind you.
