My goal at the American Sewing Expo this weekend was to get a deal on a serger. I think I did just that. Yesterday I went to the show with several different types of fabric I have used in the past and I tried out 4 different sergers. The Janome, by far, was the nicest (except for the BabyLock that was 3x my budget).

I went back today and got $50 of the price (maybe could have gotten more?? I am not very good at haggling). But it was slightly over my original budget so I am very happy.

I just spent some time going over the manual and moving it into my sewing space. I will wait for a little while before I write a formal review.

I am now going to attempt to take back my lemon serger to the retailer (not dealer) it was purchased (not by me)from as I couldn't put it on craigs list (or the like) in good conscience.

Nice! Congratulations on your new machine. Are you willing to share the price you paid? It's ok if you're not, but it would be helpful if you were.

LinCee, I paid $450. I think I got a deal. I found 699 online after a 200$ rebate. The normal show price was $499.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Yes, I would agree that you got a great deal. Congrats! I hope you enjoy your new machine. Gives me hope that maybe a new serger is in my future.

Sounds like the visit was most worthwhile for you. Well Done. I hope you have a great time finding out about using the serger. This brand is one I am considering for myself. I can tell you are very excited!!

Slightly related:
I recieved my first serger (LEMON) as a gift from my in-laws for christmas in 2007. I just took it back to Costco and they took it back and gave me cash back. That just made the new serger a bit cheaper!!! Love Costco's return policy. Now I don't have to figure out what to do with the old one.

There's a happy ending! After you have had your serger for a bit, be sure to post a review on PR in the machines section.
