Date: 10/2/09 7:47 PM I hope I'm posting this question in the correct place...I've just been informed that the Knipmode office people say that the magazine patterns do already include seam allowances.
I had been told elsewhere that they don't and had been adding allowances.
Does someone read Dutch that may be able to confirm if it is written in the magazine whether or not to add seam allowances?
Thanks so much! |

Date: 10/2/09 7:50 PM I don't know the answer, but I'm also interested in the answer. Which pattern are you working with? ------ Needles Pins Thorns (my sewing blog)

Date: 10/2/09 7:59 PM I added seam allowances to my Knip Mode, and going off of the International Superstars article by Cidell, it looks like you do add SA to Knip Mode. I have only worked on one Knip Mode pattern before and I don't have any magazines with me right now but I'm pretty sure they exclude it. ------ I'm finally a blogger!

Date: 10/2/09 8:38 PM I'm not working off a particular pattern (although I have nov 07 #10 cut and almost ready to sew)... I've been asked about Knipmode seam allowances in a PM and would like to get it cleared up once and for all whether seam, and hem, allowances are included in the patterns.
I guess this would apply to the kids Knippie magazines too. |

Date: 10/3/09 9:32 AM I have never used Knip Mode before, but I just received the October 2009 issue as a gift. I cannot read Dutch either. I looked at the pages you trace the patterns from and the photos of some of the garments in the magazine.I looked at neckbands and waistbands and their corresponding pattern pieces and it looks like you do need to add seam allowances. |

Date: 10/3/09 10:32 AM Hi Everyone,
You do have to add seam allowances to knipmode patterns.
It is the Dutch way I guess.

Date: 10/3/09 12:02 PM I've made tons and tons of knipmode patterns - there are no included seam allowances, you have to add on your own, like with burda magazine a patrones. Frankly, I much prefer it this way as it makes pattern alterations a million times less complicated! ------ www.fehrtrade.com |

Date: 10/7/09 6:04 AM Thank you all!
It's just a bit confusing when the office staff at Knipmode tell people that the patterns already include seam and hem allowances...
Glad it's all cleared up now :) |

Date: 10/18/09 4:07 PM Indeed, as another person who can read Dutch you have to add seam AND hem allowances to all Knip Mode patterns. The advice to add allowances is given in all Knip Mode issues. The office staff may have misunderstood your question--lost in translation... ------ DD Jan 2010, DS Aug 2011: busy!
