Hello folks
I just acquired a huge bunch of vintage patterns from an auction, which I'm really excited about.

I particularly love these 2 McCall's patterns, but both have these weird V seams at the front and I have no idea how to do an FBA on them. I'd really like to figure it out as it's also those V seams that make the patterns interesting and, I suspect, flattering.

Any ideas? Here are some scans of the pattern envelopes, including images of the pattern pieces.

I totally appreciate any ideas. I'm going to also post this in the fitting board so my apologies if you see this twice.

thanks!
Heather

You might want to pose this question in a fitting forum.

I'll throw my two cents in, but keep in mind I usually have to do a small bust adjustment.

Anyway, In pattern #1 I'd think you could add extra ease right in that V seam in the center, either widen the length of the one side of that seam and make the dart bigger.

The second dress looks like those V points are really darts. So I would think widening them would do the trick.

In any event several muslims should help you get the fit right.

My guess is that you should do the same FBA as for a princess seam, it is just that your princess seam has gone wonky.Re-draw the line so that there is more fabric in the apex-of-the-bust area tapering to the regular line above & below the bust.

Edit: I just noticed that the top pattern also has a dart above the seam line. Treat that dart like a standard dart--snipping & spreading or shifting & redrawing.

I don't know how to make the FBA, but I wanted to express how much I LOVE your patterns. Great styles.
