Date: 10/20/09 2:37 AM As I'm sure all contestistas have noticed, its time to vote for 2010 contests! Yay! There are plenty of good choices, but there's also the option to write-in or suggest some not on the list. I'm thinking it'd probably more helpful to the committee if we coordinate our write-ins, so here's what I suggested:
1) I wrote-in a new idea I had for a "Dart Manipulation" contest. Since so many of us have problems with really big darts, I thought it'd be a good idea to encourage people to try dart manipulation. The contest would be about changing any existing dart on either a commercial or self-drafted pattern by manipulating the dart control. You could change any dart on a pattern (bodice, skirt, sleeve) into some other form of dart control (multiple darts, tucks, gathers, yokes, princess lines, etc.). I guess this falls between the "My Pattern" and "One Pattern, Multiple Looks" contest, but I think the focus could be more on addressing fitting issues through darts than straight design.
2) I also suggested the Fitted Blouse contest, which I enjoyed from 2008.
Any other suggestions/write-ins people had? ------ "Creativity is the residue of time wasted." Albert Einstein.
No wonder I just keep getting more and more creative! |

Date: 10/20/09 5:36 AM I don't think you see results, Yvonski, because it isn't a one vote per person type of poll. We will compile everything at the end.
Dart manipulation contest: Make 2 or more versions of a garment with the primary change being changing the darts (other details may also change, but it must be recognizable as the same starting point so people can tell how you changed the darts). (Just throwing out a possible rule concept for folks to think about.)
Even if the write-ins don't make it for 2010 contests, time flies by. So the ones that don't make it for next year's actual contest can a) become sew-alongs, and b) get into the list for 2011.
There has been a fair number of votes already, so make sure we hear from you as well!

Date: 10/20/09 6:53 AM My write-in was a copy of a current runway style. The participant would have to make an item and have it resemble the original as much as possible. I think that would be a fun challenge. ------ Annette
