Date: 11/9/09 4:49 AM I found out today that my school has decided to give me $100 worth of books at our end of year ceremony, as I've won the "Creativity Award".
I have 4 days left (yes, quite short notice!) to select some books to be presented with, and I'd really like to get some pattern drafting/dressmaking/couture sewing books so I can learn some new skills and prepare for a fashion/costume course I might be taking next year. And just for future reference.
And when I normally go to bookshops, I normally just look and skim through these books (as art/design books tend to be quite expensive!)
I am currently thinking of getting "The Party Dress" by Simon Henry.
The shop also had Susan Khalje's "Bridal Couture" in their catalogue (but I couldn't find any in stock today), which I've heard very good reviews about on this site, and Jill Salen's "Corsets: Historical Patterns and Techniques", which seems to have some nice corset patterns in it. There was also the "Basics Fashion Design" series, by Annette Fischer, which had 3 books in the series.
If you own any of the above books, or can recommend another, I'd really like to hear from you.
