Date: 12/4/09 3:41 AM Oooh, I am soooo lucky! Found a great condtion Bernina 900 Nova in cream and red at my local dealership- just after being outbid on ebay for an 807 minimatic. And for an affordable price.
I think I'm going to have a better machine-loads of accessories included, extension table and a hard case that is an engineering feat! And it is very, very cute.
And the stitch quality, oh the stitch quality.
I plan on teaching my children to sew with it-they are already using a hand crank now- plus take to classes, and to use when we have periods of electric supply variation. I notice whenever the weather is bad, or if they are doing roadworks nearby that we seem to have more than usual variation in lighting output and even power brown outs/cuts then sudden resumption of supply. We live in an older area and I'm not convinced the whole suburb does not have the same issues.
I'm not sure how much protection my surge protector offers my electronic wizardary machines but it makes me nervous as circuitry is expensive to replace. So a mechanical is appealing.
The only thing I noticed was a lack of manual although it seems very simple- and I can get the dealership to show me what maintenance it needs-just wondering if anyone out there has come across downloadable free manual for the 900? I couldn't see that model on the Bernina USA site amongst the other downloads there.
There are sites out there selling them brazenly for varying amounts of $ but they must be getting them from somewhere.
Any 900 Nova owners out there? How do you get on with your machine? Any thing you think I should know?
Cheers,

Reply to Quilting Queen Date: 12/4/09 6:09 AM You are lucky! I don't own a Nova, but my best friend has had one since it was new. And believe me, she has given it a work out! And it has stood up to everything over the last 30 plus years from mending jeans to home dec to wedding/prom attire. The Nova may be small but it is every bit a power horse Bernina. I had an 830 when she bought hers, and I was so amazed at how wonderful her Nova was, and I loved the true portability of it. I still would love to have one but I have a 1030 mechanical that in all reality fills the gap. But if one came across my path, I doubt I could resist it.
Congratulations!

Date: 12/4/09 11:42 AM Oh you lucky duck! That *is* a cute machine. My husband teases me constantly, "Are you sure you have enough sewing machines?" Next time, I'll tell him I want a Nova! ------ "The louder he talked of his honor, the faster we counted the spoons" Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Reply to Joey in Katy Date: 12/5/09 2:33 AM Hi Joey,
THANKYOU so much! How great are PR people?
I knew there must have been a free one out there somewhere and do object to people charging for one they have scanned or copied for free elsewhere themselves.
So now I'm excited: I should be picking up my new little friend on Tuesday (knowing me not long after shop opens its doors- more time during day to play then!), and now I will know just what to do with her.
I do have a nice Marcy Tilton pattern in micropolar fleece that I want to cut out and sew- might be a good trial for a Nova.
We're coming into summer here but the days and evenings can still be chilly.
Cheers!
