Hi,
Will it seriously mess things up to lay fabric on the straight grain on a skirt pattern designed for bias?? Pattern is Kwik Sew 3097.

Fabric is silk chiffon. Which I wouldn't want to attempt on bias anyway, but also the fabric's pattern should not be bias. The pattern is essential for this Christmas present, so I cannot change the fabric.

Or should I use a skirt pattern designed for straight grain? I'm sewing a simple, elastic casing 2-layer skirt with visible lining. Surely that must be in my stash, but I like the full look of this KS skirt.

Thanks!!

Much of that full look is *because* it's cut on the bias. You may end up with a skirt that just hangs straight down without the pretty drape-y look. Also, measure the flat pattern. Bias patterns are often sized wider to allow the narrowing that happens to bias fabric when it's hung before hemming.

Thank you so much for quick response. I may pull out a pattern with straighter side seams designed for straight grain. I'm also concerned about what happens with the fabric when the KS pattern is so flared, like pie-shaped.
