Review rating choices could be rearranged
It would be easier if they were in a slightly different order

I've found myself starting to rate a review helpful that I think is very helpful because the first selection on the left is "helpful." Normally one thinks of a progression of highest to lowest, lowest to highest, best to worst, etc. In this case, the progression is from good to great to not so good. Maybe I'm the only one who has had this problem. If not, would it be possible to rearrange these, or is there a practical reason the selections are in that order?

No, you're not the only one wondering about this. It was just discussed recently in a thread (forgot the title.)

It should be changed.

I think the ratings we do for the patterns we review ourselves should be updated too, add a few more options, or do an "other" option where we write in a comment.

I would definitely agree with that. I wish there was an option for "recommend." There are some patterns that have nothing against them such as "did not work for me" or "recommend with modifications," that I nonetheless would not really "highly recommend." I wish there were an option between "highly recommend" and "mediocre pattern."

Idunna/Nicegirl

I must admit I am in agreement. I often find myself at a loss to decide on the rating. I don't feel I can "recommend with modifications" unless I can clearly state what the modifications should be. Often I don't know quite why it didn't work well, and therefore can't give a useful idea of the modifications required to make it work. I don't always want to "highly recommend" something because it was just an average kind of a pattern, it did what it said on the tin, no more, no less.

I agree with you, Nicegirl. "Recommend" to me is a subjective term. We can recommend it if we like it (and of course, our review would say so), and then it could be "highly recommend". But if there was a small nuance we didn't like, maybe just the "recommend" could come into play.

I find the "recommend" grade is difficult when working with a Lutterloh pattern. Because Lutterloh doesn't provide sewing instructions, although their patterns for the most part are very easy to assemble, it's difficult for me to recommend one to an advanced beginner who wants to challenge her/himself, but I do it anyway, thinking there might be someone.

I agree with Idunna and Nicegirl too. I'd love to have the additional category of "recommend" without the "highly." I have often hesitated over rating categories as I wrote a review. Highly recommend should be a special category not the default.

I also agree that the ratings of reviews would make more sense going from highest to lowest or vice versa.

Here is the discussion from almost 2 years ago about the pattern ratings.

FWIW, I agree that the reader ratings should go R-L or L-R highest to lowest, instead of being mixed up.

Thanks for that link, Debbie, I'm reading it now.

I'm okay with the choices for the most part, the only one I'm missing is an "I'm not sure yet, I'm working on it, let me get back to you" sort of comment.

That's how I felt with the recent Jalie top....wasn't right the first time, so I could have written a "hate the pattern" kind of review, but I kept at it and got it to fit. I don't know how to rate something like that. I can't even say "recommend with modifications" because others might not need to modify it.

In fact, I didn't get to choose an option as I go to the "create a new review" link from reading a review.

Now I know to always start totally from scratch.

Now back to Sondra's original issue...why are those "review" ratings not in proper order...
