Inspired by the New Year's Resolutions (NYR) discussion in Fabrics and More I would like to keep track of my progress on a monthly basis. For some of us, NYRs are easy to forget or disregard after a few months (or weeks) of having committed ourselves to them. So I was wondering if there were some of you that would like to join me in setting ourselves monthly sewing related goals that will help us accomplish our NYRs, or simply help us to "get where we want to go" sewing.

I thought we could write a post of our goals at the beginning of each month, motivate/report ourselves throughout, and report the result at the end of each month. Want to join me???

General guidelines:

1- At the end of the month (or beginning of the next), please write a summary post stating how you did with your particular goals for that month and which will be the goals for the following month. This will help keep each other on track.

2- Any time you feel to share how you are doing, need a little motivation, or want to encourage others please post. We will keep each other motivated.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My NYRs are posted in summary form in my signature and in more detail here. To get there I would like to set my January goals:
1- Finish the bags I'm making for my nieces (almost done) and post review.
2- Finish my mom's shawl (working on the fray border now; taking a long time)
3- Sew a traveling kit (luggage tags, laundry bag, shoe covers) for DH before his trip on the 21st.
Edited to add:
4- Refrain from buying fabric for the rest of the month.
Ada,
I like this idea & will join you.
My listed goals for this year are:
1. Finish my trench coat in time to wear it next spring.
2. Finish (or toss) all UFO's. And do not allow any more UFO’s.
3. Make better use of my presser feet.
4. Organize notebook of sewing tips.
5. Piece a quilt top.
I didn't put it on my list, but I also want to "finish" a contest & write more reviews this year.
So my goals for Jan. will be:
1. organize my tips notebook
(I've already started working on this)
2. finish & review my item for the "refashion contest"
3. write 1 more review.
There's a Feb. contest for finishing UFO's so I'll probably try that as my Feb. goal.
Beverly,
Thanks for joining me! Great to have you aboard!!! I sometimes fail at my goals because I end off being too optimistic or too ambitious . I tried to be more realistic this time, and of course by doing this sew-along I'm trying to improve my chances of getting there. Hopefully we can make soooo much progress that by mid-year we'll be able to add new goals for the rest of the year . (Is the "too ambitious" me peaking out here??? )
Subject: Monthly Goal Sew-Along Date: 1/12/10 11:15 PM
1 quilt top pieced,
1 garment altered to fit better and
2 garments made each month. That's the big plan. At this point, I'm about 1/2 way done piecing a quilt top. I have no particular garment plans right this minute, but I'm rolling the lingere contest ideas around in my little brain. I do have a pair of RTW slacks that need to be hemmed to be wearable.
I do intend to use/donate/pitch 2 yards of fabric for every 1 yard into stash. (60 yards in, 4 1/2 sewn!)
I plan to knit or sew at least one chemo hat each month (almost done with knitting a hat.)
Hi Ada, Glad you started this. I'd like to join too.
My general goals for the year are to sew more than the almost 100 yards I sewed last year and to be more focused in my sewing.
When I looked at the actual garments I sewed last year it was mostly tops. This year I want to think more in terms of Mini-Wardrobes. Which for me means 1 Jacket, 3 blouses and 2 pants. At the rate I sew this may take a 2-month span but I want to plan something for each month.
Thanksgiving Weekend I started planning an Olive/Tan/Blue/Burgandy wardrobe and got the majority of it cut out (3 Jackets, 2 pants, 5 blouses). In writing it looks like an odd combination of colors but one of the Jacket Fabrics is a gabardine with those colors. In December I made one blouse (lt. olive). so far this month I've made 2 more blouses (Tan & Blue) and started on the first pair of Pants.
So my goal for the rest of January is 2-pair of Pants (Olive & Blue) and a Jacket (Olive).
Happy Sewing
Deb
Welcome Deb and Amy!!!
Nice plan you both have! The mini-wardrobe idea sounds great and attainable for me. I should give it a try (maybe later this year). I was reading the Spring Color Thread here at the boards and see that at least some version of the colors you mention, Deb (given that I have not seen the actual colors, but just by your description), seem to be in the list for this Spring. So it seems you are in the right track...
Success to all on accomplishing your January (and 2010) goals...!!!!
I'm in. As you can see, my goal for 2010 is to sew 350 yards to bring down my stash, although that total is not all stash. I am still finding 2009 purchases that I am adding to January's totals (toward the 75 yards for 2010) and just ordered 13 yards from Fabric.com. I'd better slow down or I'll meet that goal before the month is out.
I have a horrible mess in both my sewing and computer rooms (where the cutting table and some fabric reside). I have been trying to reorganize and inventory my patterns, so have not done any real sewing this year. Spent all day today repairing the elastic in the ankles of two pairs of pants for DD and editting and stitching out a design on the back yoke of DGD's pants to cover a small hole that was there when the pants came from an online order. Tomorrow, I'm taking in my computer to have the computer tech at my dealer's check out my embroidery program to see if she can fix a glitch. Then I have a Diamond Club Class Friday morning and a 4D Embroidery Software class Saturday morning. I hope to get some sewing in by working around these things.
My goal for January is:
1) 2 corduroy jumpers with matching long-sleeved knit shirts
for DGD
2) 3 fleece jackets for DGS (Some may be Stash Contest)
3) Top for me (Maybe Stash Contest)
4) Long-sleeved corduroy dress for DGD
5) Red knit skirt for DGD (possibly Stash Contest)
6. Corduroy dress for DGD
7) Corduroy dress or skirt for DGD.
When the Stash Contest starts, I will be sewing almost nonstop for two months.
Sewn in 2012: 176.212 yds.
2013 Goal: 400 yds (again)
Total sewn in 2013 -- 225.848 yds.
Total yards in inventory 1/1/14 -- 1752.5
Goal for 2014 -- 400 yards (for the third time)
Wow!!! 350 yrds. That is some goal! With my schedule I can only dream to sew even 5 yrds a month . But I see that you were able to sew close to 110 yrds last year. That is some accomplishment!!!! And the fact that you set yourself a goal of 350 is impressive. That is about 30 yrds a month. I bet the stash contest will probably take care of a lot of those 350. Did you sew most of the 110 on last year's stash contest or was it more spread out throughout the year?
Hope you can get your embroidery software fixed.
Congrats!!!! Not even mid January and one goal down.
I went to see your vest for the refashion contest. Nice recycling! Vest looks very good and the fabric looks much better as a vest than a skirt IMHO. I also love the contrasting lining with the stripes instead of a solid. Good job!.
