Date: 1/17/10 2:56 PM Hi. I am confessing my fabric addiction, since I seem to keep coming back to my favorite fabric sites almost everyday to check the sales, what's new, or whatever! Why, what is it about fabric that has such an alure??? Is it the smell, feel, look, or what??? I have enough fabric to sew for several years now, if I completely redid my wardrobe. (which I need to do) Why oh why do I do that?????? ------ There is no easy way! quote from my Grandfather
Sharing is caring!

Date: 1/17/10 3:12 PM I do the same. It is addictive to look for bargains on line in a way that I certainly don't do for anything but fabric. I find the fabric message boards here are quite enabling. "They're doing it too, so it must not be a bad idea." But lately with the Vera Wang fabrics--"these are such good bargains, it is worth stocking up even without a plan because once they're gone, they're gone." Or at least I tell myself this. I do believe that wool for $1.95 is an amazing bargain, worth stocking up on. Hopefully, I'll stop for a while and go on a fabric fast until I've sewn up a decent portion of what I've bought lately. |

Admitting you don't have a problem is the first step.

Date: 1/17/10 7:18 PM I start looking at fabric online when I have nothing to do at work - which right now is a lot of the time! It's usually a harmless fantasy kind of thing for me, but every once in a while I see something I know I can't do without... |

Date: 1/17/10 8:03 PM Are you kidding? It's what makes us whole. It's what fills up our stash. It's what gives us satisfaction when we can't find it anywhere else. It's what gets our creative (and for some of us, ''older'') minds in gear. It's what we lust after more than anything. That's why I have a large stash; so I can dream! ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker

Date: 1/18/10 3:54 PM I'll tell you what I told my DH the last time he caught ... um, saw me bring in new fabric (damn that wonderful UPS man!!).
DH: "Is that more fabric? I'm going to have to remodel your room to fit all the fabric you HAD already ~ and you buy more? Howcome?!"
Me: "Because. I saw it and being the fabulously creative person that I am, I realized that this fabric was one more step towards fulfilling my creative visions and making them reality! This fabric ... I can feel it now ... is inspiring me to create such lovely things for my family, my home!"
Pause
"You DO want me to be creative and fulfilled, don't you?!"
Smart man just hung his head and stepped out of my way.
And no, I don't really think I'm all THAT creative. However, I've learned that if you dress funny and act kinda weird and make sure people know you're an artist (whether classically trained or self-taught), you can get away with referring to yourself as "fabulously creative!!" ------ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Date: 1/18/10 4:10 PM I think most PR members are like that. The best thing about it is at this site, there are so many of us who can identify. I love the feel of fabric and the wonderful possibilities each piece holds (at least that's what I tell myself) . Now, if I could also stop my pattern buying addiction...Well, I'll leave that for another day! ------ http://sosewsimple.blogspot.com/ |
