I am sewing a veil for my friend but we have a problem. I've cut out the veil the length she wants and curved the corners. It looks perfect! But the problem is in edging it. she wants a 1/4" satin ribbon edging and since the veil is curved, it wont work because ribbon is straight grain. Londa says that I need a bias cut satin ribbon. Do you know of sources which would carry it in ivory and 1/4" width? Or if there is any other solution.

here's a photo of the edging style she wants:

Dharma Trading Co. has some bias silk satin ribbon although they warn that it frays more easily than the regular ribbon.

If all else fails, maybe you could make your own bias tape and enclose the edges of the veil?

I've noticed that silk satin ribbon is much much softer than the usual sort that you find, which is most often polyester and quite stiff.  I'm talking about regular ribbon with the finished woven edge, not bias...
Try investigating a source for silk satin ribbon.  My local independant fabric store carries it in several colors and widths.  Perhaps there is one near you.  You may find that the ribbon will behave the way you need it to.  Its worth buying a small amount to test.

Based on what Georgene said about silk ribbon being more flexible can you experiment with steaming and shaping it the way you would with bias tape?

Deepika, you might also try Lacy Lovelies.  They specialize in couture and bridal fabrics.  I've never shopped with them, but the folks I know who do bridal all swear by them.

Before ordering I would call and assertain that the silk ribbon is, in fact, bias.  I used a narrower 1/16" & 1/8" cheepo ribbon and it curved around the corner OK.  Not perfect, but when given 24 hours to make a veil, then, as Momma always said, "needs must when the devil drives"
