Hi, I hope someone out there can help me. I bought this machine just before Christmas . I truly love the sewing machine part. But I am having problems with the embroidery part. The programed designs are great and work well. My Brother cards from my older machine work great too. But I cannot download new designs from the internet via USB flash drive. The machine shuts down. My dealer says the problem is my USB. The manual does say that some media may not work with this machine. But the dealer and the website do not say which type of USB does work. . My Mini Amazing Box has not worked. It works for my old Brother PE150 but scrambles the designs on this new machine. Can anyone offer assistance to me? Thanks

I was looking at the Ellageo manual online and it says the data has to be in a .pmu format. I'm still digging around to see what else I can find out. The manual says to look on their website for more details.

Since the designs work for your Brother, maybe your files are a .pes format instead of the .pmu?

.pmu??? Never heard of that.... doesn't mean it doesn't exist... but having worked for the Babylock/Brother dealer until laid off last year, I am quite certain they read .pes format - matter of fact, the Brother cards you are using are .pes format and if I were in the store working right this moment and someone called to ask what format the BL machines take I would say .pes. As for .pmu, don't know if this is what it's referring to but I know on the comparable Brother model, if you save a design to the machine's memory it saves it in another format other than .pes.

The odd thing about this is the shutting down of the machine. Does the power literally go off? Even if you have the wrong format, or files are zipped (unreadable zipped) or you have non readable data on the USB (i.e. I've put one in that included word docs as well as properly formatted embroidery designs) it shouldn't have that effect, simply cannot read them. Though it doesn't specify which type of USB to use (and I have used several different ones with no problem), try another. Actually, try this -- put in a card and the USB stick, open a card design (can't be a copyrighted one like Disney or this won't work...), then save it to the USB stick. Then try and select a design from the stick and see if it will open the design. If it shuts down again try same with a different stick. That way you're at least testing with designs you KNOW will work vs. something from the net that may be in another format, or perhaps zipped.
The manual's too big to d/l to look for the .pmu reference but right on the cover there's a toll free helpline number

FWIW, the Bernina machines can be finicky about which brand USB stick will work. Most of us have success with the SanDisk MicroCruzer sticks, and usually only after we remove the U3 program that comes on the stick. Basically, we reformat the stick.

Perhaps this is what is happening to your machine? Try reformatting the USB stick and see what happens. HTH

.pmu???

Yep, pulled it straight out of the manual online round about page 110. I'd never heard of .pmu either. When I had an Ellageo it took .pes. (Off topic, but I'm totally regretting getting rid of my Ellageo. Sigh!)

I was never able to find anything on the BL site about which specific USB you could use, but the site locked up, so I stopped looking. =o)

Interesting that if you have other files on your stick it can cause the machine to be unable to read the embroidery files. I didn't know that.

Guess, I should have finished reading your post. On the Ellageo when you saved the design onto a floppy, it did change to a format other than .pes, but I don't recall what format it saved as.

It can happen. I have a little el-cheapo USB stick that had some old non-embroidery files on it, and I loaded some embroidery files for my Deco 340(made by janome for bernina) on to it. The machine would not read the designs until I deleted the other files, one of which was that generic stick's version of U3, which SanDisk has.

Wow! Thank you every one for responding. I called the 1800 number for Babylock and got an autoamated message asking me to leave my name and number. Customer service at its finest. I am still waiting for a response. That's why I am so blown away by your interest and advuce. My machine dosen;t actualy turn off . The screen goes blank i, makes a noise, and goes back to the welcome screen. I will have to learn how to reformat the stick and several computer things. I have tried two older smaller sticks and the machine dosen't reject them it just doesn't read them. For now, I,am off to bed. Will try your suggestions in the morning. Thnaks again!

please excuse all the spelling mistakes in the last post. I don't have my reading glasses on, I never did master typing back in high school.

Oh I didn't mean it wouldn't read the embroidery designs - it wouldn't read a word file, or a zipped file - on the on screen menu it would show that those files were on the stick.... but you'd have to scroll to the emb. designs to get anything to open. If you had some emb. designs even in the right format that were zipped it would not read/open the zipped files.

How do you reformat a stick? Is doing a cd similar? Maybe that's why I couldn't transfer some itunes to cd.... I am so computer illiterate. I have tried to change cookies settings so I could sign up for Netflix, followed their very simple instructions exactly and it's still not working...
