Date: 2/4/10 4:39 PM I've never heard of Packard (for sewing machines) and can't seem to find any info other than they may have been made in Japan. Does anyone have any info on these?

Date: 2/26/10 11:03 AM Well, I bought it! I probably shouldn't have but I did. I think it is a Packard Bell machine but I'm not sure. It also has a medallion on it that has NB. No idea what that means. The wiring looks far too scary to try to plug in so I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing about that but for now I'm going to let it acclimate to the climate inside. It had been kept in a garage for quite a while. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'll do some research but so far I haven't found much. I joined Needlebar and was accepted but they don't seem to be giving me access to anything and won't answer my e-mails so that hasn't been a good resource. I'm open to any and all suggestions as to where to look for info! Thank you!

ETA - I just flipped it up side down and discovered that it says Brother in the cast iron and on a couple of the parts. Who knew?

Date: 2/26/10 11:53 AM It sounds like one of the vintage Japanese machines. (You don't say whether it's straight-stitch only or zig-zag. If the former, it's probably an HA1 (Singer 15 clone) machine.)
The vintagejapansewingmachines group at Yahoo Groups has lots of information to help. -- Edited on 2/26/10 12:27 PM -- |

Date: 6/23/12 7:41 PM Well a Packard Sewing Machine followed me home today. It's looks like it has never been used. There is rust on the bottom shaft, someone rewired the controller and plug with an electrical cord from a lamp. but for $15 I am thrilled. Mine has a badge that says "Washington D. C. ; Packard: made in occupied Japan". It's a Singer model 15 clone, straight stitch, with reverse. Can't wait to get it rewired, oiled and rust removed to try it out. |
