I've been meaning to plan a get together for the local PR members for a while and a recent trip to the Textile Museum in Lowell, MA gave me an idea to plan our next meetup there.

read about my museum trip here

So the plan is to meet at the Museum on March 13th (tentatively). They will organize a group tour for us followed by a meeting space (still to be determined) where we can relax and do a show and tell.

There is a fun and funky 50's apron exhibit going on there so I thought how fun would it be if we brought our aprons to show! So mark your calendars for March 13th. More details will be posted here.

I've created a poll so if you're interested, please post here.

Will you attend March 13th Meetup at the Textile Museum

Looking forward to seeing you all there! The more the merrier.

I should be able to make the 13th!

I haven't made any aprons, but my sis brought back one for me when she went to Italy. I use it for decoration; might be fun to bring along.

That's awesome Anne. I hope we get a nice group going. I am really looking forward to it. I don't have any aprons either. Other than the functional one which I actually use in the kitchen. I did buy the famous MBH apron pattern which looks more like a dress.

Maybe that'll be my March sewing project. Should be fun!

I'd love to come, but your invite on PR says the 13th (bad for me) and your blog says the 14th (likely good for me). In any case that tiny hand crank machine is so neat. I wonder if it was a portable machine the operator might take right to the job site? Maybe we'll find out next month.

Ann, initially we thought of 14th but if we want to do George's textiles and Classic Elite yarns we can't do that on sunday. They are both closed. Saturday opens up a few more options. Sorry

I would love to come, and will try. Would it be okay to bring along someone who was not a member of PR? I have a sister who lives closer to Lowell than I, and being able to bring her along would make the trip more possible for me.

Oh well. Would have liked to see you again.

Cathy - I'm sure that wouldn't be an issue. Maybe he or she will start sewing!

I am glad to hear that you think bring someone would not be an issue, I will check into things and see if it would be possible. I hope so, am starting to get excited about the possibility of meeting some other members and having a great day together.

Oh, what a bummer! Lowell is my hometown and I will actually be there visiting family that whole week of March 6-14, but am attending a bar mitzvah which will proably take up most of the day on March 13.

What time is the meetup? (again, doubt the bar mitzvah will be over by then--it starts at 10)...

The Textile History Museum is FABULOUS (maybe I'll go myself on Sunday the 14th! haven't been in a while) -- I nearly had my wedding reception there (did it at a different Lowell Museum instead).

And I love George's Textiles. I don't know if it's still the same owner, but he has fabulous fabrics and a wonderful remnants section with great deals. He's very helpful in general and I went there all the time when I was first learning to sew back in high school and college.

My favorite exhibit I ever saw there was of movie costumes--they had glamorous 1930s bias-cut gowns, some of Elizabeth Taylor's sexier dresses from various films, the blue gingham dress from the Wizard of Oz, and many many more. And they've had wonderful exhibits (haven't seen the new permanent one) of everyday American clothing throughout the years.

For any quilters, Lowell also has a wonderful quilt museum... and for the history of textiles in general, there's the Boott Cotton Mills tour (and you can see where the Mill Girls used to eat/sleep/etc when they weren't working the looms).

Oh I SOOOOO wish this was on Sunday! (or even Friday, since I'll be there all day Friday!)

P.S. I still have and wear a retro-style apron I think I made with fabric FROM George's Textiles... and I've never been to any PR meetups! Oh well.
