I'm still gathering machines for classes and saw this one on Craigslist for $30. I've heard it's a basic machine, but that's about it. It's missing it's pedal so I'd have to send for a replacement. Any thoughts or anyone have one?

I KNEW I had read a review of this machine from a few years back - Quilter's Review did one! Here it is:

I remember reading some posts on an old Sewing forum years ago where these machines were being offered at a special price..and somebody said they were flying off the shelves and they were very well liked models.
Sorry but I have forgotten the special price offer but I think it was under $200 where the machine did sell originally for a lot more.

ETA: I didn't see any reviews for the 1010 here on PR but the Epinions website does have 2 reviews and both are favorable.
Another on line review site..Quilter's Review, also gives a favorable review for the Elna 1010 and in this review the reviewer even mentioned how the machines had been flying off the shelves so she had to try one LOL. I just checked this review after my posting about that special sale on it years ago. I don't remember the year or the event that had the terrific sale on this machine. It seems like a great starter machine for classes.

I bought one for my daughter about 10 years ago at an Elna dealer. I paid about $200. It is a sturdy machine, good stitching, easy maintenance, and has served her well. But it has only had occasional use. One of her friends is using it now to sew baby garmets. It is so basic, I don't think much could go wrong with it, but it wouldn't be worth putting lots of money into it. They do have a drop feed, so you should make sure that works. I also remember the Quilter's review and agree with all it said. They do pop up on ebay and I have seen minty ones sell for about $100.
