I guess you'd say I've been lurking for a while. The site has so much to check out!

I learned to sew in Jr. High and High School, and sewed for my DD till she was about 12 or 13 (didn't sew much for the boys). Now she's 28 and getting married. Not much sewing in-between, except a couple years helping out with show choir costumes. Searching online for advice on making wedding dresses led me to PatternReview!

I currently have two ancient sewing machines, a Singer 1425 and a New Home I inherited from my MIL. I also have a Huskylock serger, used for several miles of rolled hems for show choir ruffles, but that's about the extent of it. All machines have recently been to the shop for cleaning / repair, so I figure I'm good to go!

Some posters have mentioned the number of patterns they have. I haven't counted mine. I sort of collect them. Not deliberately, but I just can't seem to get rid of them. I'm that way about books too.

Good fabric is hard to come by in my midwestern town. We have a JoAnn's and a Hancock's, but both are small. I'm tempted to order online, but I'd rather feel the fabric before I buy. We (DD, DH, and me) are planning a road trip to Minneapolis someday soon to see what wedding fabrics might be available there. Any suggestions on fabric / stores would be most appreciated!

I look forward to more sewing! I've already been encouraged (and motivated) by what I've read on PatternReviews.

Welcome to PR! Just hide all your credit cards, cash, etc, coz this place has a way of hypnotizing you into buying all sorts of really cool stuff that you just gotta have and can't live without! And then there's all the fabrics!

Somewhere in the Twin Cities area is a warehouse sort of fabric outlet (or just huge fabric store) and I hear the fabrics are wonderful. We have a member named just B and maybe she will see this and tell you more. She has been there. :)

I have yet to visit SR Harris in Minneapolis but from their website it looks like a wonderful starting point for your wedding fabric search. (I think this is the fabric outlet place that Mufffet mentioned)

You gotta watch out for Lynn because she's one of the worst enablers here!!

I was just to Ginny's a few weeks ago and loved the place! Be prepared to find all sorts of beautiful fabric to "touch and feel"! I was with 3 non-sewers, so I felt a little self-induced pressure to not browse as much as I would have liked. Ginny is a hoot, she is so lively and friendly! We all had a great time just visiting with her. I was in Rochester visiting relation so I probably won't get a chance to go back anytime soon (I live in Michigan). I certainly hope to go back shopping by myself if I get a chance.
Good luck!
