I have been desperately trying to add the bodice yoke to the bodice in this dress. I can't figure it out. Can anyone explain?

Here is the link of the dress you are working on. Would it be possible for you to list the step you are on? Are the directions wonky?

I'm hoping to get some help on this pattern. I am on step 5 - basting the midriff to the bodice and my pieces are not matching up. Matching one set of notches brings me to the seams not matching up and 1.5" short on the midriff piece to the left seam. Leading up to this step, I sewed the front and back bodice together on the right seam w/ a 5/8" sa. I sewed the midriff piece together w/ a 5/8" sa on the end with the notches (as pictured). What am I doing wrong? I even slept on it thinking I would realize it this morning but nothing. Additionally, I do not want to install a zipper in this dress. Are there any tips anyone can give me for omitting a zipper? i.e., seam allowance adjustments, skipping steps. Thanks!

first check to see if you cut the right pattern pieces. Then make sure you cut the right size on both pieces.

check them first and let us know.

Besides RockNRolls suggestion to check that you've cut the right size pieces a couple other thoughts.

Are the notches for the bodice and midriff piece marked for the correct size? You said you're coming up short 1.5" on the midriff piece. On the bottom of the bodice piece does it say to ease or conversely does the midriff band say to stretch to fit the bodice?

thanks Ladies but I've checked ALL those things and nada. Cut right size consistently = check; special instructions for stretching or seam allowance other than 5/8 = check (nothing). I'm at a loss. I even put this down deliberatly for a day and went back to it to see if something would jump out at me. Nothing. I think I'll pm a few others who have made this pattern and see if they have any suggestions. Otherwise, I may have to wing it but I'm new and winging it is Scary!! LOL

Does the midriff piece have a seam on the right side of the garment or was it supposed to have been cut on a fold? Two 5/8" seam allowances equals 1 1/4" and you say that you are 1 1/2" short on the midriff. Just a thought.

Match the pattern pieces to each other to determine if they match properly; if they do, then compare each piece to your cut pieces. Perhaps you will find the error that way.

maybe you can look at the reviews and PM someone who made it, Maybe you can ask if you can call them and perhaps they can walk you through it? Sometimes a phone call can bring such clarity.

I pm'd someone about it. I think I'll just have to wing it. I'm electing to not install a zipper on this dress but I don't think that would make any difference at this point. It's just frustrating that I can't find my mistake....I know it's me not the pattern. If anyone else had noticed this I'm sure it would have been mentioned in a review. Anyway, this is how I learn - the hard way.
