Pattern Review’s Lined Jacket Contest

April 15 through May 14, 2010

The object of this contest to create a lined jacket. The jacket must be wearable by a person. It must be lined, with out exposed interior seams. And the jacket must have sewn on sleeves.

In your review, pictures of both the inside and outside of the garment must be included. Details on the method you used for creating the jacket will be useful to those voting.

Definition:
A jacket is a garment meant to be worn over another top. It has sewn-in sleeves and may any length from cropped (midriff) to full length (typically worn as a coat at that length). Being lined means at least 2 layers of fabric and no exposed seams. Bound or otherwise finished but exposed seam allowances do not qualify as lined for this contest. Small exposed but finished sections as a result of the lining technique are acceptable.

Clarifications:
- Reversible jackets do not count as lined for this contest.
- Cloaks and capes are not jackets.
- Sleeves may be set-in, raglan, or dropped, but may not be cut-on (dolman or kimono).
- Any type of fasteners for the jacket opening can be used (buttons, zippers, frogs, hook and eye, ties) but are not required.
- Lining may be stitched down to the hem as is typical of a tailored jacket, or may be left loose as is typical of a tailored coat.
- Jacket does not need to be tailored in style. It just needs to be lined.

The 1st place winner will be determined by member vote.
There will also be a Random Entry Prize Winner.

Voting guideline suggestions:
- Does the jacket meet the rules criteria (lined jacket)
- Does the review include sufficient information to judge the construction of the jacket?
- Does the construction of the jacket match the declared skill level of the entrant?
- Is the lining fabric appropriate relative to the fashion fabric (weight, type)

Oooh, thank you for these tips. I am not sure if I will enter the official contest or not - I do have a simple jacket I am planning to make for my daughter - and I want a lining in it - so I could time it to the contest - we will see (that is why I tagged this thread). But it is great to start off with these great tips all posted in one grouping on the first page to easily find

I think I am going to jump in. I promised my DH a black suit. I made the pants, but never made the jacket. Already have the material, so why not.

I love how these contest are guiding me to work on projects that have been in my mind for months.

It's such perfect timing for me, I was going to start on my jacket this weekend. But now I'll wait until next week.
Laid out all my pieces on the fabric I've got last night(not pinned or anything, just needed to see if I had enough, couldnt remember how much I'd bought) and need to get another wee bit more, I've got a friend going and getting some extra for me and sending it down over the weekend.

SO exciting.

Oh, I'm using Vogue 3846, view B.

This is great timing for me! I need to make some jackets for a trip I'm taking to Asia--I'm leaving April 22! I need at least three jackets and already have one cut out.

I've just started making a muslin so I don't waste my gorgeous fabric.

Thank goodness I did, I need to adjust the front a bit, not quite sure what, its 930 at night here so too late to figure out exactly what it is I need to do. LOL
The back fits like an absolute dream though and looks like the pattern was made to fit me right from the packet. Love how the pattern has a nice flow to the bottom. Very cool!

Ok, so heres another question. Can we enter two garments into one contest? I've got 2 fabrics here that would make great jackets, just wondering if I could make 2 jackets to enter the contest, or just the one.
