Today, words fail me as I write this, for it is a sad day today. I lost a teacher, a mentor and above all, A Friend.

Today, we say goodbye to Shannon Gifford, our beloved teacher and sewing enthusiast. After battling with cancer for more than one year Shannon passed away last night with a smile on her face. She talked about her life for which she was thankful and grateful. She talked about her family, her friends and her students whom she loved.

From FBA to Stitch and Flip Jacket construction to her Beginner 101 sewing classes, Shannon de-mystified the sewing process for everyone. While teaching, she went above and beyond to help students achieve the perfect fit whether it was a small dart or a princess seam, she never gave up. She always had a solution for every sewing dilemma. Even in her last days, she was giving sewing tips!

Besides teaching Sewing Classes on PatternReview, Shannon ran sensiblesewing.com, a website dedicated to help sewers from all around the world. In her newsletter, she talked about interesting sewing projects, addressed fit issues and talked about sewing and fashion trends. Shannon also developed an eBook on zipper techniques which was very well received! Always ready to help sewers in any way she can, Shannon was truly and completely devoted to the art of Sewing.

Shannon was much loved on PatternReview and worldwide in the sewing community. Hundreds of e-mails poured in when I asked if people wanted to send prayers her way which was compiled into two booklets and sent to her. Just goes on to show how many lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.

So, today as we grieve her loss, let us close our eyes and think of her. And if I may suggest, let us sew something this week in her honor.

Shannon, you will be missed deeply.

God rest her soul. She has touched so many lives. She showed us her numerous talents right up until the end in helping others. Our hearts go out to her family. RIP. Dear Sannon.

I did not know her or take any of her classes, but after reading her and Mike's blog, I sure wish I did. What a love story, what a wonderful person our world has lost. May she rest in peace.

Although I didn't know her personally, I did benefit from her teachings both in the sewing world and, by reading her and her husband's blog, spiritually. Thank you Shannon and family for touching my life.

Oh, I had so hoped we could keep Shannon with us -- I had so hoped cancer wouldn't win this time. I'm very involved with the Relay for Life, a fund-rasing effort for the American Cancer Society. This year I'll add Shannon's name to my list for luminaria.

I can't write anymore right now -- it's just too hard to keep losing these wonderful people!

My heartfelt prayers for the survivors and the victims and all their loved ones. Pat
