Date: 5/2/10 7:14 AM I doubt there's a pattern anywhere. If you want to morph things together, the hardest thing to find will be those straps, that run under the arm and then up behind the neck. Most halter-ish patterns use two straps stuck to the top of the bodice. As of right now, I haven't seen a pattern with similar strapping/bodice as in the photo.
I've made something like this, about five years ago and just drew it off a leotard sloper (it was a skating dress).
I do like the raised V at the bottom of the bust (filing detail for some future use) |

Date: 5/2/10 7:41 AM Thanks Kittykate,
Yeah, I looked at some of the skating tops and actually have many of those patterns. I agree it is the straps, arms that will be the biggest challenge.
I have wondered about taking a cami pattern (jalie) and using that to make straps that go around the arms like that.....hmmm. Maybe one day when I have more energy I was hoping for less of a frankenstein pattern....but always good to have inspiration.
Cheers

Date: 5/2/10 2:04 PM Ottobre has this cami top in the 5/2009 issue.

The wished for green top is described as having ties at the neck and has a corset laced back. Too much going on for me! I like the front of the top though. The Ottobre pattern has the princess seaming and ruched top and it would be easy enough to make wider straps that work as a halter style.
Single issues are available at the Ottobre site. ------ Liz

Date: 5/2/10 4:40 PM I'm with Gemmina , I knew I'd seen this before ..in my pattern stash line up for DD this year. Just make the hem line about 8-9 in. from the waist and it's a top instead of a dress. The center knot thing could easily be omitted too. Not for knits, but with some tweaking it would probably work.

Date: 5/3/10 7:05 AM I remember making/wearing these in the '70s so it might be worth having a look around at patterns from that era.
I vaguely remember the fronts being a funny shape and needing a lot of fabric, and the facings (needed to stabilise the width of the straps) being a complete PITA to assemble.
You might be able to morph this from a sweetheart neckline - that's got the right lines if you omit the actual sleeves.

Date: 5/3/10 10:07 AM Speaking of the '70s...I found this pattern from 1979 in my stash.
I'd be happy to send it to you, Stretch Queen, if you think it might be useful. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but looks like it could be modified. It's sized for 8-10-12.

Date: 5/3/10 12:59 PM I vote for M4444. Very nice pattern and it looks exactly like the inspiration top. So much so that I was comparing them side by side. It has the inverted V that is unusual. |
