Are less readers visiting the gallery?

I love looking at and commenting on garments in the gallery and have noticed something recently. It seems the number of comments has decreased. I also think some regular contributers have been absent. Is it my imagination?

It stands to reason that the gallery will become larger with more members, and each review will garner less comments. It would be great if we could manage to drop in for quick comments, especially for newer members. And before anyone might think that I'm fishing for compliments, I haven't reviewed anything for a long time!

I've decided that looking at the gallery makes me feel guilty about my current lack of garment sewing. (Sometimes, it inspires me, but not this week!)

I think I got overwhelmed as a contest was ending and new reviews were getting posted so fast and furious I got behind. I've been searching by pattern number more often and mostly reading reviews of patterns in my current favorites pile.

I really enjoy the gallery, but i find myself buying a lot more patterns when I visit frequently I usually rate reviews I read, but don't often comment... I'm just quiet by nature I think.

I usually rate too, (if I think the review is helpful......does anyone ever check anything BUT helpful or v. helpful???) but I don't always comment. A little more time to type a few words really wouldn't hurt!

Just not enough time to look at all the reviews, so I do tend to only look at the ones that interest me.

I will admit that I only comment on the ones that really interest me. The garment and the review both have to be well noteworthy.

But, my garment requirements are changing so as I research and find old reviews that I might have missed or weren't relevant at the time I am now commenting on.

Hopefully those who write good reviews sstill think that it is worth the time.

Since I rarely sew with any of the Big 4 patterns I usually only check reviews of Burda Patterns or sometimes Kwik Sew or Jalie. If I recognize a name as someone I follow I will check their reviews for inspiration. I try to comment since I love getting comments on my own reviews but I just don't have time to read all.

Summarizing so far:
gallery produces guilt rather than inspiration, too many reviews at a time, gallery viewing leads to pattern purchases, rate rather than comment, not enough time, noteworthy reviews rather than all reviews, follow certain people or certain pattern companies.

Yep, those all make sense to me. I don't have much time to read a lot of reviews and to comment on them. I have followed the gallery less in the last few months. As I became more clear about what I wanted to sew in the coming season, I stopped checking the gallery regularly. It is a shame though, because there are gems that show up.

I would love a forum where we could post works in progress, or even ideas, and get constructive criticism. I actually love getting comments on my reviews (who doesn't?) but I'd prefer to hear specific feedback and suggestion as I'm working on it.
I would appreciate comments like "raise the hem 1 inch" or "try a different fabric rather than xyz fabric" or "the skirt is too tight-redo the seams"

It's late and I'm rambling. I would love to see the gallery more active.

I look at the gallery all the time. I don't always read the reviews unless it looks like something I would want to make. On the reviews I do read I almost always rate it and often comment.

Me too Marec. There is a WIP facility on reviews, but it doesn't get much attention, they get lost quickly in the pile of finished garment reviews. I'd like an area or a sticky in an area where we could ask members to brainstorm on our behalf designwise. Fit problems have a space and that is useful, but often the problem is whether the hem is a good length or what to do at the neckline to improve the look of the garment. (Accepting frank comments)

I wonder if it would be possible for Deepika to create a gallery option to just view WIP. It would be a different way to interact, perhaps more like blogs but it sounds like it might meet a need - and maybe even more usefully than documenting on the message boards (since the review would be written in the process).
