I want to make tops like the ones you see at Chico's

I went to a few boutiques this weekend and I always end up favoring Chico's. I love the weight of there jersey tops.
I can't find it in the L.A. garment district (sad face).

I don't like online shopping for fabrics but i don't see any alternative.

I particularly liked the 95%rayon/5% lycra.

I know many here have talked about Jersey's that they love. Would you please share your favorite sources and fabrics.

I want the type of jersey with some weight to it and not something that wants to cling to my rolls...

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You want the 11oz rayon jersey from Emma One Sock:

Emma One Sock 11oz rayon jersey

This stuff is a dream to sew, doesn't cling to rolls, and has body/weight to it (but not too much for a top/dress). It's a little pricey, but I've loved the few things that I've made with it.

Thanks so much Michelle.
I haven't worked with 60 inch wide fabric in a verylong time. How much do you order for a top?
Normally, I just buy 2 - 4 yards of most every thing but at 18.00 a yard I would only want to buy exactly what I needed.

Thank you again.

I'm not thin, so I usually buy 2 yards for a top, 3 yards for a dress. 2 yards will cover most top styles for me, including wrap styles and long sleeves. You can purchase in half yard increments from EOS, so if you can usually get away with 1.5 yards for knit tops, you can purchase only what you need.

I agree with Michelle. Emma One Sock has the most beautiful jerseys. In fact, the most beautiful fabric period. I have ordered from Linda for years and have never been disappointed. You can't go wrong with EOS.

Gorgeous Fabrics is also really good, although her specialty is the printed jerseys, but she has lovely solids too.

Have you looked at Mood fabrics (Fairfax and Pico I think)? I've only been there once but it looked like they had an amazing selection of fabrics (basics too, not just fun stuff). I also like F&S on the westside (pico and overland)--they have a pretty good selection of jerseys.

I'll second Emmaonesock for her rayon jerseys. The plain 11 oz is wonderful. If you want prints she's got the best in rayon lycra jersey you'll see. Harder to find are cotton jerseys but she gets those too. I am wearing a beautiful silver metallic jersey top fabric from EOS. Things go quickly so if you love it click your mouse. She also has some of the best sweater knits anywhere. Actually I've never been disappointed by any fabric I've bought from her.

I'll third Emmaonesock. The 11 oz jersey's are my favorite.
As far as yardage, I always put sleeves on tops and I buy 1-1/2 yds for short sleeved summer tops. Wish I wasn't too vain for sleeveless b/c I sure have some cute sleeveless patterns that only use 1 yd.
