I did a board search, but wasn't able to find much. Please forgive me if I missed it.

I have this machine with this feature, but the manual doesn't address it. What does it do and how does one use it to best advantage? What should it be set on "normally"?

Thanks!

According to the Janome website, the STS uses a spring instead of a looper thread tension dial to adjust the threads to lay properly on different types of fabric so that the thread will lay tight and flat on thick fabrics and looser on thin stretchy fabrics.
I cannot tell you what the normal setting would be for this because I have never used or even seen a machine that has this feature other than what I have viewed on line. I think you would just adjust it as needed.
I hope you enjoy your machine.

Thank you. I have fiddled with the control for it some, but haven't seen any difference. Only did it a couple times, though. Hmm...this machine also does have a tension dial for the looper, so I'm not sure what extra advantage, if any, the STS gives. I'll play with it.

I do really like the machine so far:)

I have a Cover Pro 1000CPX and a manual I downloaded online for the 1000CP. Can't find a manual for the 1000CPX.

What is the Seam Tightening feature? I am asking because I am so frustrated today I have threaded and re- threaded and replaced needles with Schmetz EL-705 and my left needle thread keeps breaking.

I have noticed that on the right hand of the machine is a chart
Picture of Chart

(have no idea how to use or read) and under that is a slider. What is that for and is this the Seam Tighting?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, I don't know what the slider is used for, but I can see from the little chart that it is telling you that you can use the coverstich for hems and to make the strapes in the sleevless top. The top little picture of the stitches is a triple stitch coverstich. The next picture is showing you a wide coverstitch using the outside two needles. The next stitch down in the chart is a picture of the narrow coverstitch which uses to needles that are close together. The last stitch you see on the chart is the chain stitch which can be used as a basting stitch or you could even create a quilting look on your fabric. I have Elna 925 serger which also has the same coverstich and chainstitch options.

Hi again, I just looked up your model in the Janome.com site and it explains what the lever is all about and what the charts is about.

Hi Scheri - Is your presser foot up when your threading your machine so the tension discs are not engaged? Is it possible there is a burr or cut on your spoon of thread that the thread is getting caught on or is the thread pooling, perhaps some spoon nets would help.

I would check again to see if the needles are in right and inserted far enough also. Sometimes just walking away and coming back later works too!

I have a 1000cp, I don't have the seam tighting feature. Debbie Cook's coverstitch tutorials are backup on her blog, maybe you can find some answers there. Good luck, I know how frustrating this is.

I have it and have played with it and can't see any difference in the stitches. I'm sure it does something, but no idea what.

I have never had any thread breakage problems on the CPX, but I do find it really prefers cones over bobbins or spools and the threading is really easy. One mistake I made early on was to forget to put the lower looper (well, the only looper) back in place after threading it. You pull the knob to let it fall to the right to thread and then you have to put it back in place to sew.

Hope you get it figured out. I love my cover stitch!

I have the 1000CPX and just had this problem recently. Due to vision problems I am having , I was not threading the thread path from the spool correctly. It is very important to follow the book's instructions on threading through the thread guide and then through the thread guide plate exactly as it shows [ pg 24] of your manual. Hope this helps.

After searching and searching. I have a Janome Cover Pro 1000CPX but only have the manual for the 1000.

I did manage to get the ONLY page that is different from one manual to the other.
