Well, that's it. My love affair with fabric.com is over. I know I have defended them here. I have written great reviews about their customer service. I have appreciated the quality of their goods. BUT...

They are making too many mistakes. I ordered some of the tropical wool that was on sale. Great price, great fabric, great deal. I received the wrong fabric. I called immediately and spoke to someone who apologized and we worked out a solution. Sadly, she apologized like she's getting accustomed to doing it. They are messing up all too often. It seems they are just going through the motions now.

I'm not even upset that the fabric I chose and didn't receive was no longer in stock. Maybe a little bit, but not enough to rant and rave over. I found a substitute that will work just as well.

But even the box was beat up. The fabric was still wrapped in a plastic bag (which I always appreciate), but the box was about to pop open on the bottom. There wasn't much holding it together.

So even though I will continue to shop with fabric.com, the honeymoon is over. They are no longer my number 1, go-to fabric store online.

I got the wrong fabric my first order from fabric.com. It was a set back. They let me keep the incorrect fabric, which helped a little. Now that I see Fabric Mart will help you match thread to your cloth, I probably favor them. It was hard trying to compare the swatch with a bad pic of thread.

I think they've gotten too big to be what they intended to be. I don't know what they were like when they started out, but they say they want to be "like a corner fabric store" and have a personal relationship, yadda yadda, but with all of the automated e-mails and scripted lines when you manage to talk to a person (rarely the same person, and you certainly don't have the option to contact a specific person, even if they've told you to..) They can't answer questions, they can only give scripted answers. Anything not on the script is "information they don't have access to." It's not like dealing with a small store, it's like dealing with a corporate bureaucracy. Maybe that's not an awful thing-- a large store that makes large purchases has access to lower prices. They're just a pain to deal with.

Is it wrong of me to want to order now hoping they'll send the wrong fabric and let me keep it? Even if the color is awful, it will make great muslin for a special project!!

At least fabric.com has fixed their mistakes on my orders. I can't count how many times I have been shorted by Joanns due to wacky cuts, off grain or just plain short. And they don't fix it either. I don't always catch it when my kids are with me, and even when I do catch it they are snotty and rude at my local store. Fabric.com has always been polite at least!

I 100% agree with everything you said. They fix their mistakes, and they are polite about it. You don't get shorted fabric and you can get your money back.

There is just something wrong with so many mistakes. I wonder what is going on. This is certainly not the first mistake that has been made on my orders, but why are there so many?

I would still purchase fabric from fabric.com before I would purchase it from Joann's, but I'm not defending fabric.com any more.

I've been ordering from Fabric.com for a long time. Their prices are great, their service can't be beat, and I love the free shipping after a 35.00 purchase. I avoid the really cheap stuff (1.95/yard) b/c I am usually not happy with the quality-although once got some fabulous denim for 1.95 per yard. Yes, there have been several mistakes, & they have always said, "keep the item..." Nice policy, more than fair, it seems to me. I will continue ordering from them.

Ha! I was thinking the same thing about ordering in hopes of getting free mistake fabric, Marec!

I'd much rather shell out a few bucks at the dollar table or Goodwill. Karma does come back to bite you in the butt, most often.

I do agree that they make their share of mistakes, but they're cheap, so I guess I take that as my "you get what you pay for" trade-off. I certainly don't count on them if I have a very specific and/or urgent need. But... At least they DO have good customer service still, which is more than I can say about some of the other big vendors like Wazoodle and FFC/Denver Fabrics.
