Subject: Problem with monogrammer on vintage Kenmore. Date: 7/2/10 9:23 PM I finally got time to set up the monogam attachment on my recently aquired Kenmore 158.1803. Set it up as manual suggests but it keeps doing a straight up satin stitch and does not form the letter. I must be doing something wrong. You know how manuals can be vague. Stitch width 2.0 Settings for monogram. #11 needle w/mercantile silk thread and using tissue paper underneath. If anyone has one of these and can help me out I would really appreciate it. My last resort will be to take it to a dealer and have them try it out. I feel sure it is user error though. -- Edited on 7/2/10 9:29 PM -- ------ It is common sense to take a method and try it. Date: 7/2/10 10:14 PM I have posted there also. I find that site to be much slower in response than PR is. For some reason days go by w/only one or two posts. ------ It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. Date: 7/3/10 12:30 PM I've seen a couple older style monogram attachements. One that took a hoop and the other was like a buttonhole attachement. If yours is like the buttonhole attachement to you have the fork part over the screw on the needle bar to make it go forward? Kind of like a clutch system....just a thought. |

Date: 7/3/10 3:27 PM Quote: labeelady Did you remember to lower the feed dogs? My manual states " feed dogs up" . This is a hoop style of monogramer. " Line the start line of the flat template to the left side of the hoop" per the manual. It just kind of vague. I think the attachment may need lubing or something as it doesn't seem to move like it should.------ It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. Date: 7/3/10 3:49 PM I have an older hoop style on one of my older mechanical white brand machine and when I use it I have to follow the template with a stylus and it is attached to the hoop to move the hoop under the needle. With mine I have to drop the feed dogs.
Your system sounds intriguing. Would love to see a picture.
