I purchased a vintage pattern that I want to make out of knit. Because it's vintage, I want to make a muslin first. But it doesn't make sense to make a muslin for a knit out of, well, muslin. Can anyone recommend a cheap knit fabric that would be good to use for a knit muslin?
thanks!

use the cheapest knit you can find that is about the same thickness. Sometimes I use those knit sheets if I see some at a thrift shop....

I try to match both weight and stretch. Knits will always be a little trickier to muslin, but are also more forgiving.

Just make sure your knit isn't the REALLY cheap (aka really BAD) knit that doesn't have any recovery. A poor quality knit interlock comes to mind. I've actually had some knit that wasn't even worthy of muslins because it stretched out of shape badly and had zero recovery. Yes, it is possible to have fabric that's too bad even for experimental sewing.

I used one of DH's old shirts in a pinch.
