Date: 8/23/10 9:32 PM At Nordstroms today, I tried on this dress.
It looked great except the bust didn't fit (no surprise, I've got F cups) and it was too snug in the thighs (I've got F-cups there too.)
But other than that, It's a pretty flattering dress and I'm hoping to knock it off. Has anyone seen a similar pattern? I really like the ruched princess seam/french dart (the models hands cover a seam.) The Adrianna Pappel dress is made out of a ponte knit, but I think I'd like to use a stretch wool I've got in my stash. -- Edited on 8/23/10 9:33 PM -- ------ -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Date: 8/24/10 0:35 AM Hmmm, not sure. Amazing dress. Try to ignore the ruching and look for a dress on similar lines. It's easy enough to change the pattern for ruching later. ------ http://3hourspast.com- Vintage Style, Sewing, and Ethical Fashion |

Date: 8/24/10 0:36 AM You might find something by searching through vintage patterns on ebay, etsy and the internet in general. The cut looks very "modern with hints of the late 50's" to me. ------ http://3hourspast.com- Vintage Style, Sewing, and Ethical Fashion |

Date: 8/24/10 2:54 AM What a beautiful dress. I don't know how to copy it, but maybe a sheath with ruched princess side panels morphed with a tucked version of Vogue 1183 for the neckline? -- Edited on 8/24/10 3:02 AM -- |

Date: 8/24/10 2:19 PM I have an impression that there have been patterns with that ruching/seaming in several issues of Burda World of Fashion magazine, but since I don't normally do dresses, I didn't make a point of noting the issues.
You might try posting your question under topics which include Burda in their subject line. |

Date: 8/25/10 4:11 AM It makes me think of the lovechild of V8633 (with a lower neckline) and V8603.
And I agree, it's completely stunning ! ------ Meet me at rosemiracles.wordpress.com |

Date: 8/25/10 10:42 AM No suggestions, but just a comment that that is a really beautiful dress, I saw a RTW dress last year that was similar, with the folded pleats up at the neckline. |

Date: 9/1/10 6:34 PM I think Vogue 1156 blended with V8594 might be a good start - 1156 has the pleated neckline and the front/side panels, and 8594 has the empire waist thing going on. You could take the neckline from 1156 and overlay it on 8594, making extensions so it overlaps at the center front. Then use the midriff from 8594 extended onto the front panel of 1156 to get the top line of the center front below the bust, but use 1156 for the seaming. You would have to draw the curved lines on the center front and back carried over to the side seams, then treat the sides from armhole to hip as separate pieces and extend those for the ruching. Fun! It's a beautiful dress. I see they have a sleeveless version in the Plus sizes in a pretty royal blue taffeta. Very nice, both dresses. Good luck! ------ I love sewing and have plenty of material witnesses. |
