Date: 8/28/10 6:48 PM With this in-betweeen seasons weather, I have just made a knit cardi from Kwik Sew 3693 and wrote a review. Some of the girls at Sewing Down Under regional group have expressed interest in a sew along for cardigans.
So....who wants to join in for some cardi sewing/overlocking fun?
You can make yours in whatever fabric you like, whatever pattern you like, however you want... this is your cardigan!
Wouldn't it be great to see how the different cardigans work up that are available in pattern catalogues?
We could share useful tips on handling different stages of construction with knits, and have fun.
My tip for dealing with the neckline of Kwik Sew 3693 was to sew bias binding around the neckline to stabilise the point from which much of the cardiban hangs. I overlocked the edge during construction, then added the bias binding, turning the ends under as I went.
Who's next? Who would like to share what they intend to sew? All welcome.

Date: 8/28/10 7:00 PM I have a cardigan on my sewing to-do list for Sept., so I'll sew along with you. I haven't yet decided which cardi to make. These are the possibilities: Simp. 2560; Simp 2603; or McCalls 6084 ------ Beverly.

Date: 8/28/10 7:01 PM Do you need an overlocker to join in? I've never made a cardigan before so have no idea what's involved. |

Date: 8/28/10 8:11 PM After seeing the rows of gorgeous gelato-coloured cardigans at Target last week, I'm in! I'll have to do a muslin first of course before I cut into my gorgeous turquoise merino.
Pattern will either be New Look 6735 (without that awful waist tie) or Vogue 1058.
Oh & Lareine, I probably won't be using my overlocker. -- Edited on 8/28/10 8:11 PM -- ------ Alison in suburbia - Sydney Australia

Date: 8/28/10 8:45 PM Oooooh I am SO in on this one! I have a couple of gorgeous sweater knits that I've been salivating over, and at the same time clueless about working with, so this is perfect! Don't have my pattern yet, but this is exactly the motivation I need! ------ http://jillybejoyful.blogspot.com/

I've made Simp2560 & liked it, but didn't like my fabric choice. For S2603, which version did you make? I like the look of McCalls cardigan, but I haven't had much luck with McCall's patterns recently, and there are no reviews for it.------ Beverly.

Date: 8/28/10 11:25 PM I'd like to make one, but I have a couple of other projects (not all sewing) that need to come first. I'll read along & jump in when I can.
