Subject: WTF?! Found this in my swimming pool!! Date: 9/10/10 1:39 PM

OMGosh ... this thing was *huge!* He's about 2+ inches and c-r-e-e-e-e-p-y!

He was struggling in my pool and even though I'll normally save *anything* that's fallen into our pool, this guy was too scary. Check out the size of his mandibles!!! Again, bear in mind that he's over 2 inches long!!

I don't suppose anyone knows what he is, do they? Quickie searches seem to indicate that he's a Jerusalem Cricket, but they're not indigenous to Florida. o_O

Ugh!! Whatever I do, I can't seem to post an image from my Flickr account!!! I've even tried using the "Image" link above AND my own HTML.

Well, crap.

It's an alien, I would move immediately.

LOL, great minds think alike ... I was just about to pack!!! o_O

I love living in Florida. I love the weather, the people, the flowers ... but it's the bugs that often just make me think that Florida's one of those places you should visit. Once. And never again. o_O

Would you have saved him? I just feel guilty about letting him drown. :/

No I would not have saved him, mainly because I'd be worried where else he would turn up. Imagine a dark quiet house, the storms are rolling in, the house is trembling from thunder, you decide to go to bed early, you fumble in the sheets, suddenly lighting illuminates the room, lo and behold you have a giant bed bug!! AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhh.

It's probably a mole cricket. They love most of the lawn grasses that grow in Florida. There is hope, though. They have natural enemies, so all you have to do is stock your yard with rats, skunks, armadillos, raccoons and foxes. Have a nice day.

That's exactly it!! Thank you!!

As for it's enemies, I'd rather have the predators than *this* thing. He's just ... skin-crawly. o_O

Ugh. Did you just see that? I gagged a little. Really. o_O

I don't usually get freaked out easily. Honest. I once stepped on a spider in our garage whose abdomen was larger than my thumb. My foot *burned* for a week. But that booger didn't scare me as bad as this thing.

Ugh. Urk. Gag.

*urp*

I knew I never wanted to live south of the Mason Dixon line when a colleague who'd moved to Phoenix talked about looking at houses and seeing the occasional dead scorpion in bathtubs.

I'm not wild about little bugs, but you southerners seem to grow them extra large.

Ahh.. I see you found Mr. Poorpigling.. I say..let him drown.

I am a bit scared of any spiders, bugs, and creatures of this sort.. Prefers snakes to these little things that can crawl up on you before you even see them.. ack......
