Date: 9/18/10 10:06 PM Hi,
You all know Vonne is having a hard time right now, and Lareine is still going through aftershocks.
I'd love to send them something, a small cheer-up, thinking of you note. and perhaps a small gift but not necessarily.
Anyone interested? Is there anyone else who I've forgotten? Thoughts on how we could arrange this?
We could pool money & organise a massage or something relaxing, but that gets more complicated.
We probably need people to be a central collection point - who can receive the items & then send them on. One in Brisbane, one in NZ? We can't share an address without permission, of course.

Date: 9/18/10 10:13 PM What a lovely idea and I would happily contribute. Perhaps something that could be given/signed to Vonne's dad as well to help him restore some faith in humanity. I will put my thinking cap on.

Date: 9/18/10 10:18 PM Mel, I was thinking the same thing during the week.
Tossing some thoughts out there
- there may be PR members not in Aus/NZ who'd like to contribute - both Vonne and Lareine are active across the boards.
- because of postal costs and time issues, it may be more cost/time effective to give money (paypal? direct deposit?) that can be used for a gift voucher/ flowers etc.
Is anyone badly affected by the floods?

Date: 9/19/10 0:02 AM Guys, I just saw this and I am extremely moved by your thoughtfulness. Really, that is just the nicest thing I could imagine reading here, and I am sure Vonne feels the same although of course her trauma is very different from mine.
I do not need anything personally other than to know that other people care about what's going on here, which I know you do. Although the earthquake and aftershocks were extremely stressful for me and everybody else here, we haven't had any noticeable aftershocks in the last 24 hours and it really does seem like things are winding down. I thank God every day that things weren't as bad at our house as they were elsewhere in the city.
If anybody would like to do something nice for New Zealand, please feel free to contribute to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal. This will get to people who were unfortunate enough to lose their home, business, or both, or who do not have the mental ability to cope with the stress we've been enduring.

How can I make a donation to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal?
* Phone 0900 33 200 to make an automatic $20 donation (That is a New Zealand number but my computer is persisting in turning it into a Skype link to a UK number -- no idea why!)
* Donate online at New Zealand Red Cross
* Donate in person at any branch of Post Shop, Kiwibank, ANZ, National Bank, ASB, TSB and BNZ across New Zealand or at any Red Cross Centre
* Mail a cheque (made out to New Zealand Red Cross) to: Canterbury Earthquake Appeal, Freepost 232690, PO Box 12-140, Thorndon, Wellington.
Thank you all
Edit: if anybody does want to send an eCard to me or to Christchurch people in general, mail me at jenny [at] jennyadamson [dot] com. I would be very happy to share any messages from internet peeps with my friends and colleagues across the city. -- Edited on 9/19/10 0:14 AM -- |

Date: 9/19/10 3:19 AM Hi Mel, an excellent idea, count me in too.
I think a few of our regular PR'ers are at the ASG conference in Ballarat this week so maybe need to wait till they get back to include them as well.

Date: 9/19/10 6:03 PM What a lovely idea Mel!
Count me in, and I agree, if we are to organise a gift, paypal is probably the best way to go, unless someone is going to organise something personally in Brissie for Vonne.
In any case, count me in for both ladies. I know treefrog was affected by the floods, but I think it was brief, and she is well :-)
Thanks for thinking of this! ------ Imaan in Sydney, NSW.

Date: 9/19/10 8:22 PM Lareine - thank you for sending the link to the NZ Red Cross. I'll go online and see what I can do. I really loved Christchurch when DH and I visited and the people were so lovely to us that I'd like to do something to help. I'm so glad that things finally seem to be settling down. ------ Maree - Sydney, Australia |

Date: 9/19/10 8:28 PM Mel - I think that's a lovely idea. I've been in touch with Vonne personally already but if you need anything from me by way of contribution please PM me. I could easily transfer from my bank a/c.
I'm sure Vonne would be just as happy with a card from us all though that she could show to her father and family. Having said that she may show up here any instant and say 'to heck with that Maree - what about my massage!' . I'll go along with what you think really. ------ Maree - Sydney, Australia |

Date: 9/19/10 9:21 PM If I can add in my bit- a massage would be a wonderful present for Vonne right now. She really needs some 'me' time atm. I've just checked massage businesses in her suburb and found one which sounds great (very professional qualifications) and I took the liberty of emailing the owner about what we are trying to achieve, and asking how we could pay her(mentioning no names of course). I also checked the Aus.Paypal site, and found out that money can be paid to her business through a mobile phone number or email address, with no cost to us.
So, if we want to go that way, there could be more than one way to contribute directly.
Our other option would be to go through Vonne's daughter, a very competent young woman who is managing the family 'stuff' at the moment.
What do people/you think? ------
