Date: 12/29/04 11:41 AM I have a Janome 5700 and an Magic box. Of course, you have to have the software for the magic box. However, I really haven't gotten into digitizing yet. There are so many places to get embroidery and lots of free stuff too. So it's just a matter of downloading the free embroidery, and writing it to the appropriate card for my machine.
I don't know much about your machine. Does it take an embroidery card? ------ What is Maxine saying??

Julie Z Julie, you will need an editing program for resizing and general editing of any design.
I would recommend Embird which sells online for around $70 last time I checked. The plus thing with Embird is the price and the numerous capabilities of the program.
Embird has several addons, one of which is Studio, a digitising program..another is Font Engine, which I would highly recommend. Both are inexpensive for their features and way less than big brand names. There are several Yahoo groups for Embird too.
You can download a free 30 day trial of Embird from

Date: 4/23/05 8:53 AM I recently bought a Janome 300 e. I find that the customizer software is truly for downloading to the ata card. I would have to purchase the digitizer to accomplish what I want to do. Is there a digitizer program compatible with Janome machines? I read info on Origins, Embird and I feel so confused as to what will be user friendly and what features one has that the other does not. Any info would be great.

Date: 4/23/05 4:22 PM I haven't tried digitizing yet, but I'm sure that I will eventually. Embird has a free thirty day trial that I plan to try, since it has been highly recommended on several websites. An embroidery site that I really like is artisticthreadworks.com. I would give you a link to that site if I knew how. They have a message board, but it requires a membership. I think the membership is about twenty dollars for three months. They also have free design downloads.
Artistic Thread Works message board is very informative and the posters are very helpful when others have questions or problems. |

Date: 4/23/05 5:35 PM I have a Viking Designer 1 along with just about all the software that Viking makes. I have been digitizing for about a year and have had some success with not too complex designs. The Viking software is pricey from the dealer. I was able to upgrade some old software that came with the used Viking embroidery machine that I had previously. My cost was around $500 for customizing and digitizing (just under 50% of the retail price at the time). I really like both programs, but must admit that I've not tried any of the other brands available. I do know that the Viking software will save designs in other formats. Be prepared to spend alot of time both in learning how the software works and then honing your skills by practicing and sewing out. I have spent up to a week refining one design, but in the end it turned out so beautiful that it was worth the time and effort. Hope this helps. Good luck. ------ Viking Designer SE LE; Viking 936 serger; Janome CoverPro 1000; Viking Sapphire 870; 1957 Brother mechanical. |

Date: 5/5/05 8:49 PM You should be able to use any editing package that will convert your final design to the JEF format. You will need the Customizer to download the design to your ATA card. Or, if you have the new "wireless" technology that will work too. |
