Attaching strap retainers

I bought some strap retainers for the purpose of stopping lingerie/bra straps from showing. I went to sew them into a top this morning and realised I wasn't really sure exactly where to put them.

I want to use them in a Vogue top that has a wide neckline (as they always seem to be). With my narrowish shoulders, my bra straps always seem to show.

I know they should be located on the shoulder seam, but which way and how far? Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Natasha

Try on the top with your straps positioned where you want them, and baste the guards to the seam allowance in that position. Wear it around the house for an hour or so to see how it works. If you like it, permanently attach, if not, try another location.
