Date: 10/3/10 9:06 AM Hello Adelaideans!
Thought I'd start a new thread for this because the Down Under thread is more than 2000 pages long!
My name is Joyce and I love to sew and collect fabric. I also love drafting my own patterns. I've done a custom pattern of myself using a gladwrap. Would anyone else in Adelaide be interested in doing a Gladwrap session too to get a custom sloper from which you could make your own patterns and compare commercial patterns to for fit purposes? See my post here for an explanation.
Custom Fit by Gladwrap
Also, is anyone going to the Knitwit showings this 11 Oct Monday at Adelaide International Motel, on Anzac Highway Glenelg North? I'd love to meet fellow PR's from Adelaide and compare notes!

I'm,alas, in Sydney... But would happily do a gladwrap session if ever you came up here!!
Your stuff on your blog is excellent!! Which WAldrich book are you using? And do you refer to any other ones?
I think Aless (often on the PrDU thread is also in/around Adelaide.

Date: 10/3/10 10:00 AM Hello Gillian!
A bit relieved that someone left a reply...hehe. Sure, if and when I do go to Sydney, I'd do a Gladwrap for you and you can bring me to the fabrics haunts in exchange. Deal?
I use Metric Pattern Cutting for Womens Wear, but I also have the Menswear and Children's Wear books as well. I love the way the books are laid out-so much information! And I learnt all my pattern drafting skills from there alone! I have found however that the waist darts are set to a formulae and does not compute from a real person's bust points. So I marked where my bust point is and draw my waist darts from there. However, now that I've got my Gladwrap sloper....I've been using that. I will continue to use Aldrich for things such as jacket and overgarment blocks etc.

Date: 10/4/10 5:23 AM Hi Joyce
I'm in Adelaide, but will be in Canberra on 11 October.
I'd like to make a personalised model but actually had in mind the duct tape version. There are a few youtube videos illustrating here
Duct Tape Dress Forms. I live in Clarence Park and work fulltime but have a car and can travel easily on the weekend. If there is any interest, could do something in a few weeks when we are over the school holiday rush.

Date: 10/4/10 6:23 AM Hello Austragirl,
Thanks for the reply. I'd like to do a duct tape form too. I don't have a car though. You're welcome to come to my house during a free weekend for a duct tape do. I'm at Modbury North.
If you give me a pm, I'll give you my contact details.

Date: 10/9/10 9:22 AM Hi Dintas,
I'm in Adelaide too, so it's nice to see a post from a fellow Sth Australian!
I have only been sewing a few months so don't know how to draft my own patterns yet. As I am still learning to make clothes from patterns I don't think the Gladwrap session is at my level of expertise yet!
Anyway nice to touch base with another sewer! |

Date: 10/11/10 1:53 AM Did you get to the knitwit showing? I got there about 11.30, the bus from Marden was about 20 minutes late, so I missed the next bus in the city. I din;t buy anything, but may buy something later by mail. My family came around yesterday and I didn't get organised with patterns and amounts needed. ------ Pat

Nice to meet an Adelaidean too!
I saw your first efforts-not bad at all! Very promising. I've only been sewing since October last year-when something interests you, you become really motivated to learn everything.
Keep sewing!

Date: 10/12/10 10:33 PM Hello Pat
I just sent a PM to you and then decided to check this board. I did go,but was early and only stayed a little while. I didn't buy anything either. I did think of buying some fabrics that were on sale, but then the postage costs would have gotten me an extra metre. Not worth ordering for me unless I buy a lot at once to offset postage. But if you do order anything, let me know, maybe we can go halves on postage.
