Date: 10/27/10 11:47 PM I just received Kwik Sew 3476to sew up some leggings, but I am confused about the fabric suggestion of a knit with 75% stretch across the grain. I am thinking about other RTW leggings I have bought my daughters, and the fabric always seems to be cotton/lycra with less stretch. Some internet searching did not lead me to any fabrics with this kind of stretch, minus swimsuit ones.
Ideas? Should I try a less, stretchy fabric? ------ erind |

Date: 10/28/10 0:20 AM It's not 75% stretch, but I ordered some of the Swiss 4-way stretch from Gorgeous Fabrics to make leggings, and I think it will be perfect for leggings:
Swiss 4-way stretch
It's beefy but stretchy and feels like it will be a good bottomweight knit.

Date: 10/28/10 9:13 AM Cotton lycra jersey is excellent fabric for leggings IMHO. I worked in the fitness industry for 20 years and wore cotton lycra jersey leggings alot. If I were to sew leggings today that would be my fabric choice. The basic cotton lycras I have in my stash now easily have 75% stretch. To double check I just stretched a 10 inch piece to 20 inches with no problem and that would be 100% stretch, wouldn't it?
ETA Spandex World has good quality cotton lycra. It is a nice mid weight that would work well for form fitting leggings. They will send you free swatches. -- Edited on 10/28/10 9:20 AM -- ------ Liz

Date: 10/28/10 9:57 AM I use the cotton spandex from Spandex House and it easily has 75% stretch. It washes up great and so far no pilling. Definitely recommend it. They will send out swatches if you request.

Date: 10/29/10 11:59 PM Thank you ALL for your replies-I am going to check out Spandex World's selection and also experiment with some typical cotton/lycra fabric with less stretch and see how it goes!
