Date: 11/2/10 11:01 AM I just finished making Butterick 5261, and I really like the blouse and ease of construction. However, I think it needs a collar stand because you can see the place where the collar and lapel meets. I'd like to keep this pattern as a TNT in my stash but would like to add a collar stand. Can this be done? Thanks, Pat |

Date: 11/2/10 5:09 PM You know Pat, after looking at the picture on the pattern envelope,
it almost looks like it has a stand. It sure looks like your idea would
work fine. Please let us see it if you try it. Sounds like a fun project. ------ just Carl

Date: 11/2/10 6:44 PM Hi Pat, Oh I just saw this thread and I looked at your blouse. Yes, I don't see why you can't add a collar stand to this. I was wondering that too when I looked at the photo.
If I was going to do that I would use a pattern I have already with a stand and just measure the length around the neck and then adjust the pattern so it would fit. |

Date: 11/2/10 8:37 PM yes, that's what I thought, too - just marry it up with a pattern that has a collar stand. Would I also have to modify the collar pattern piece? |

Date: 11/14/10 6:59 PM To add a collar stand, I pick a pattern with a collar and a stand in it already. I use that collar stand/ collar combo to add to my pattern that needs a stand. That way, I don't have to alter the collar itself in anyway.
Once you pick a pattern with a collar and stand, you just have to make the "stand" seam line match the neckline of the bodice and that's all you have to worry about.
To figure out how to match the collar stand from another pattern to YOUR bodice, just look at the patterns with collar stands and copy how it's lined up. the stand seamline matches the bodice neckline seamline. I use my BWOF patterns to look at his relationship since the seam allowances aren't in there, it tells me exactly how the stand matches the neckline.
I add collar stands all the time and it makes it look so much better!
When do we ever find RTW without one?
