How would I sew a regular fluffy pom pom onto the point of a hat? I would much prefer to do this by machine if poss ( I will be making 13 nightgowns + hats for my DD's Xmas play and want to use pom poms on both!) but if I have to do it by hand I'm not sure of the best technique to use?
Any know how?
TIA

Honestly, I can't imagine you could do that easily and snugly w/ a machine, but maybe there is a trick. But if you handsew, double up your thread in your needle. You'll cut your time in half and it should go pretty quick (same thing I do for buttons). Been there done that...I had to sew about that many poms on coat/hats for gifts a few years back. I sewed them when I was riding in the car here or there and it went fast.

Hi Eve,
Thx for the reply, so double the thread, should I attempt to tie the thread around the middle of the pom pom first or just sew thru it with each stitch as i sew to the fabric?
Hope that's clear!

Yes you can sew these by machine; either a straight stitch or a zigzag. If you have just a straight stitch. make the stitch length really, really tiny, like about 20 or <1. If you have a zigzag, make a narrow zigzag stitch, maybe about 2 wide, and make the length really really tiny, like the straight stitch. Do this in the center of the pom pom and tie a knot in the thread ends on the inside of the nightgown.

Ah, ok so it's possible to put the presser foot down on the pom pom and sew it directly to the costume, that's great thx:) I havn't bought my pom poms as yet so haven't been able to try anything and just wanted to check they wern't gonna be crazy difficult to attach!
Thx guys much appreciated:)
