Ok, so as you all know I decided to sell my MIL's machine on Ebay so this was intended to be my last ebay sale of a sewing machine ever. Do you think it could possibly go smoothly? Nope.

So she emails me about it arrived damaged (I insured it). But I'm finding myself having to listen to her tell me how I sent her this machine that's a piece of garbage. Now I'm trying to be nice..and this is the first problem that I've had EVER with something I shipped out. Anyway, I'm trying to be nice...but sheesh it was obviously damaged in shipping and she even complained about how the UPS guy left it on her step (seriously, I have zero control over how the UPS guy leaves something on your step).

Anyway, the most sucky thing about this...is that I'm trying to come up with money for my son's occupational therapy and speech therapy and
if I can't get the UPS insurance to kick in I'll have to try to eat $1000 because MIL needed the money so she has her money from the sale and now here I am trying to figure out how to handle this. And it's probably more than $1000...because I'll have to give the lady her shipping money back and pay her to ship the machine back (because there's no way in you know where that I'm going to just hand her $1000 and let her keep the machine).

OMG, I so could use a valium right now.

JillyBean.

PS...oh and to top it off I just ran out to the mailbox and it appears I owe another $500 in medical bills that my insurance won't cover. deep breaths, deep breaths.

PSS - Sorry about the vent...and I'm sure this will all work itself out somehow...at this moment though it's not looking good. I hope MIL is enjoying her cruise.

oh.. :cry/
Bills too.
I hope she ships it right, so it doesn't incur more damage. Better tell her...
Maybe have it take it to a repair shop and then sell it from there!
Or something. I dunno. They probably wouldn't do that. Sigh. I can think of nothing helpful to say.

Thanks guys, I know I'm the evil seller this time. *sigh* I've sold lots and lots of stuff...so I suppose it was bound to happen. But of course it had to be an expensive product.

I offered her a partial refund. My guess is that the machine works fine, but the top cover and hard case were damaged. So far she as least doesn't seem like a whackadoodle.

And really, my own bills have zero to do with anything...except that I really don't need to be buying MIL part of a cruise (I don't get to go on cruises).

At this rate I would have been better off just adding the machine to my collection and calling it a day!!! Well maybe she'll just send it back and I'll have a broken D1 for my collection. :/

So sorry to hear of your horror story!
Hang in there and remember you insured it!! Look at the bright side, it takes a little time to go thru the issues with insurance....time, just some time....breath in & out....slowly....

Can I just say that I really hate UPS? I just received a damaged machine and I'm so upset! This was $1100! And the seller is the nicest woman but the problem was in the packing (professionally done but crappy) and UPS' careless handling. Now, gotta tell you I'm not quick to knock a service but this is the third broken thing that I've gotten from UPS. So I don't use them to ship. I use fed ex. Now probably other people have had problems with fed ex, but so far, they've been great to work with. So, I'm worried that I'll have to eat that $$, And, the woman who sold me the machine sort of asked me to split the shipping with her, so, of course, I did. It wasn't her fault her shipper didn't pack well, and she took as much of a risk as I did, but she has my $1100 and I don't have a machine. So what's a woman to do?

So, I feel your pain. Realistically, UPS will probably cover it for you. I hope it does work out well for you. And hoping your little guy is doing well.

I used to Ebay alot of machines years ago, but so many things have changed. I've decided to only do small items. Too many people doing chargebacks and this. Shipping problems seem to be the number one problem these days. I usually use Fedex, but they have their problems also. I hope everything works out for you. Really sorry to hear this. I hope everything works out for you.
