Date: 11/6/10 8:56 PM I haven't been for years . . . but got a lot from attending Sewing Expo in Puyallup (PYOO- al-up), Washington- originally organized by the University of Washington Extension Service.
People come from all over this country and from across the Pacific.
Lots of workshops, demonstrations, vendors, wisdom, and humor.
It's little known that the Pacific Northwest is a great sewing center. I'm originally from NYC and I find more of what I need on this wet, rocky coast than on the Atlantic coast.
As they say about all the writers, musicians, and artists out here, it must be that the chronically wet weather motivates us to stay indoors and make things (when we aren't outdoors climbing things in the rain).
The website for this March 2011 event is still "under construction". However, the information should appear at the end of December. http://www.sewexpo.com

Date: 11/11/10 10:07 AM Thanks for the info. I've never been to this, but have always heard great things. I'll look forward to checking out the website when it is fully constructed. ------ blog: encue.blogspot.com

Date: 11/11/10 10:09 AM I get the pamphlet each year now - for the past couple of years. I always dream of going out at that time, but haven't yet. I think there might be reviews here of that expo though in the Sewing Expo & Class reviews section on the first page of this site. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

Date: 11/12/10 8:13 PM Seems like I heard about one here last year tso want to go. My son and family live in the Seattle area, I have also read about the Singer expert shop out there too. Date: 11/12/10 8:19 PM I have a friend who goes with a group of friends every other year or so.
I would love to go one year, but it is not in the budget right now.
When I go I will bring my RV. They have RV parking site which solves the problem of transportation and accommodation in one go.
Plus lots of room to bring loot home. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student |

Date: 11/12/10 8:25 PM Wonderful! I made hotel reservations today. I'm sure you know to come prepared for chilly, wet weather. Puyallup itself doesn't have much hotel space so I hope you all have reservations already. The last time I attended, we stayed in Lakewood (west of Puyallup) and it wasn't a bad commute either. I've already started my list for the vendors -- Japanese sewing notions are at the top of the list so far. ------ Patti

Date: 11/14/10 3:48 AM This is only one state away...when times are better I want to go. The RV idea has merit, or else get a couple of friends to share a hotel room.
I'm putting it on my bucket list along with San Diego Comicon. |
