I have a question and I hope I am posting this in the right place.

It is my understanding that if you make more than one view of a pattern, you are not supposed to write a completely separate review. Instead you are suppose to update your review with the new view, right?

I didn't know this when I was new to PR so I posted more than one review of the same pattern. No one has reprimanded me for this (thankfully!) but I'd like to adhere to the rules of the site as much as possible.

I understand if you made dress A from a pattern and then made dress B with say, long sleeves instead of short sleeves, the review will read much the same way and there is no need for a separate review. But what about when the second view is completely and totally different from the first? For example, for a Simplicity Disney princess pattern I used, one view was Snow White and the other view was Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). I posted two separate views because they are two totally different dresses. Similarly, I used a Vogue flower girl pattern as the base for a Halloween costume, but I will use the same pattern for actual flower girl dresses in the next few months. The flower girl dress will be totally different from the costume, so I would want to write a separate review. Is that okay?

If I am making too big of deal of this, just say so (gently) but otherwise I want to know is the best way to handle it.

Thanks! I've been enjoying the site and hope to get to know more of you soon. :-)

I think it's really personal preference--there are no "rules." Like you, I only do a separate review if it's a completely different garment (with completely different pattern pieces). When I'm looking for reviews of a pattern, I appreciate having different reviews for different views because if the thumbnail pic is for a view I'm not doing, I probably won't click on the review and would miss useful information if separate views were combined in the same review. For variations, I just update the old review.

I agree with nicegirl-do a new review if there are substantial differences in the garment from the previous one. Even if the two were close, most of us wouldn't blink an eye. No rules :-)

Thanks for the reply. I totally agree about when to update versus a new review. I too appreciate different reviews of the same pattern if it is something completely different. Okay, so biggie about it. Thanks!

I will do a second review if I've made a different garment in a wardrobe pattern or if I've substantially altered a second making of a garment. You can always add a link back to the original review.

If all I've done is remake the same garment in a different print or +/- a small detail, I update the review with a new picture and a few comments.
