Many of you know that I have a CRF kitty. This poor little thing has had health problems her entire life. She isn't even four years old and we've almost lost her twice. On Monday night I took her over to the hospital because she wasn't feeling well. They let me bring her home on Thursday and, despite the fact that I'm giving her sub-Q fluids twice a day and an appetite stimulant she doesn't show signs of improving. She hides all the time, has lost about a pound (a lot when you only weigh 6# to begin with) and has stopped grooming herself. I know what's coming. I've decided that enough is enough for this poor animal - she won't be going back to the animal hospital unless she is in pain, which she doesn't seem to be at this point. It just makes me so sad to see her slip away.

Oh Gigi,
I am so sorry about your kitty. It doesn't help to tell you that this kitty has had a wonderful life for much longer than if someone else had been caring for it, but it's true. You're a kind, caring person to realize that the time has come. We've been through this, and it's just hard, no way around it. I know you're making the right decision because you're thinking of what's best for the cat. (My DH always says, "Didn't anyone think of what the cat might want?") You are doing just that, and that's the most anyone can do. Again, I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry for your little sewing companion Gigi, this is hard time for you. Good memories will emerge eventually and you know that soon she'll have no discomfort, the sad thing is of course that she's so very young but luckily she has had you as her friend. I can offer you no words to ease your pain, only that I've been there and I know what you're going thru, my sympaties are with you two. Marita and 8 cats 7 kittens

How sad for your sweet little kitty. She is lucky to have such a caring owner. I'm sending virtual hugs for you, and head scratches for your kitty.

Such a cute little baby... Gigi, you've taken such good care of her. She won't have as many days with you as you wanted, but I'm quite certain that she's had more love and security than most cats have in many years. I'll be thinking of you.

I'm so sad for you and your little one. I know you've gone through a lot to keep her alive. She knows it too. Thank you for your efforts to save her, lots of people woudn't have bothered. Even though you know what's coming, it's sad to see them go through this. I have an 18 yo cat who's in a very weakened state and there's nothing we can do but love him up until the very end. That's all you can do too. She will always be part of your family so just keep loving her while you can. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

I'm so sorry, Gigi. This breaks my heart.

A couple of things that you can do to keep her comfortable: talk to your vet about

1) giving Lucy 1/4 tab of Pepcid AC daily and/or an anti-nausea (could be part of her punkiness) and

2) different food options. If she's nearing the end of her time, it doesn't matter if she's eating a CRF diet or not. Hills AD is super smelly and will encourage even the most finicky kitty to eat. You may even have to switch foods frequently to encourage her to eat. Bonito (fish flakes, available at pet stores and asian groceries) sprinkled on food is another irresistable treat.

If you're able to quell any nausea and get her to eat, she'll feel worlds better and may even surprise you.

Another comfort: Is there a place you can set up a pillow and incandescent lamp she can lie under?

I'll be thinking of you, your family, and your whole feline crew. Sending lots of warm vibes to Lucy.

I don't know what a CRF kitty is but I am sorry you are going through this. Our pets become part of the family and it is really hard when they are sick.
