Date: 11/22/10 5:23 PM Jen, my niece, 28, who was diagnosed with CF 23 years ago and has been awaiting a heart/lungs transplant has been moved from her "normal" hospital to a critical care one and will be there until a transplant can be found.
She's been in her regular hospital for the past 5 weeks and is doing worse by the day. She's been moved to Shands in Gainesville, and won't be able to leave until she's received a transplant. Since that requires someone's death, it's a horribly sad thing to hope that someone who matches her dies so that she might live and go home to her husband. But we don't want to lose her, so we have no choice but to hope that a matching heart/lungs becomes available.
We'll be leaving to see her on Wednesday (we want to make sure to give her time to settle in and stabilize) and we're seeing her with very real understanding that this might be the last time we ever get to see her. By Wednesday, she will have had surgery for her to accommodate a permanent trach-tube (from what I understand ~ which isn't a lot, it's all happening so quickly).
As you can imagine, we're devastated by this ~ my husband more than you can possibly imagine as he just utterly adores her (as we ALL do).
So, please, send her good thoughts and if you're so inclined, prayers, too, please. And please send good thoughts and prayers my SIL's way, too. She and her son-in-law are making a panicked 10 hour drive (while our niece went by medi-vac) to see her.
Please forgive me for sounding so stupid ... I'm just ... dumbfounded. And upset.
Thank you all so much.

Date: 11/22/10 5:28 PM When I said that we're devastated by this, I really didn't mean to make it sound as though it's about US. Just mentioned that in the hopes that a few prayers/good thoughts could be sent my DH's way, too.
Until our children came along 13 years ago, she was like a daughter to him. We only found out about how ill she is this morning, and it's been all he could do to not break down and cry. And the ONLY thing keeping him from breaking down and crying is the desperate need to be strong for his sister and for us. ------ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Date: 11/22/10 5:36 PM I've been thinking of her for several weeks - and now I know why. She's been so tough for so long. She has my hopes for the best possible outcome. ------ “Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.” -Robert Heinlein and Ann's father. Thanks for the reminder, Ann.

Date: 11/22/10 5:41 PM Oh how scary and terrible. I will be praying for her and all of your family. My sister's good friend has a son with CF, thankfully his meds seems to keep him in check most of the time (he's only 4). ------ "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain." ~Dolly Parton

Date: 11/22/10 6:36 PM Jen is at the top of tonight's prayer list, and there she shall stay. I'll be praying for her to get the most compatible transplant possible, and that it occurs quickly. I know that the power of prayer is beyond the power any human can comprehend.
You and your family are also up there for prayers of healing, grace, strength and the overwhelming peace that you all will need in these trying days and weeks.
We've got lots of power here, with all of us praying and sending those good thoughts to you, to Jen, your family and your friends. |
