Has anyone seen a pattern yet for the sapphire dress that Kate Middleton wore (designed by Issa) to announce her engagement to Prince William?

Please post a link if you have! Thank in advance.

I'm planning to knock this dress off, too.

I'm going to use Dress #11 from the September (2010) issue of KnipMode.

You can see the line drawing here:

Here's where I bought my issue (along with a few other Euro pattern magazines):

I smell a sew along!!

I bet a LOT of people are thinking of knocking this one off.

I think McCall 5752 and (less so) 5974 could work.

Thanks for posting these links. I, too, thought Kate wore a lovely dress to announce her engagement.

Thanks. I bet there are past Burda patterns that are similar--I seem to remember a few with the crossover middle like that.

that's pretty close Michelle. I even have that issue. I like the drafting from Knipmode. It's a lovely dress and it looks like silk jersey, though a rayon would certainly work.

I was just happy she didn't wear a dress like the one Michelle Obama wore on the announcement of victory stage for Election Night, 2008. That dress looked terribly like an apron --a fancy one, worn over a dress. It made me think that of all the women in the world who would never be in the kitchen on a full time basis, well you can fill in the blanks.

I am so happy that Ms. Middleton will be wearing Princess Diana's engagement ring. That is one spectacular design, and absolutely a perfect ring for a young woman who will have diamonds enough in her life. The long time the two have known eachother also bodes well for the two of them. All in all, this is the greatest good news the monarchy could give the UK, and the rest of the world. Even in a rough economy, there is nothing quite like a wedding to cheer us all.

I like the dress patterns too. I think though that the design is one that requires a really thin figure to pull it off well. For the rest of us mere mortals, I'd make the band around the middle a lot thinner or smaller in height, but I'd keep the upper part of the bodice pretty much as is. It really is a lovely dress.

I've yet to see any patterns that copy the dress, but there are so many out there with so many of the elements that it shouldn't be too difficult to tweak one to get something similar.

There was a Maggie 'something" on Butterick a couple of years ago, and I got that pattern to make my sister a dress. However, I lost the pattern, and it's no longer on the site. Perhaps someone has one in their stash and could post it here for a similar, but close, dress pattern.

ha! Michelle, I just made this dress last weekend - I should have my review up in a couple days (maybe on FehrTrade today?). Scratch that - you inspired me to do the writeup - see my version of this dress here!

You'd have to change the top bodice into a surplice rather than the current V-neck, and I found the waist seam on this to be really high (almost empire) so you'll want to lower that by a few inches, and make those waist bands waaaaaay smaller. In Knip's this is a pullover dress, but looking at how tight Kate's ties are, you'll almost certainly need a zipper if you want the ties to be as snug as hers.

And this probably goes without saying, but you'll want an exceptionally thin lycra jersey for those drapes. I used a poly/viscose/lycra jersey and the waistband actually add a bit of bulk to my waist (not really the look I was going for, but oh well!).

(Now that I've typed all this out for you guys, I'm so copy/pasting this into my review...)
