Date: 1/15/11 7:49 PM A friend of mine just gave me an antique sewing tool called a Tack-It. Its shape resembles a stapler, and you use it with dressmaker's carbon to put marks on your pattern pieces. Anyone else have one of these dandies? ------ Roseana, Austin, TX |

Date: 1/15/11 10:41 PM Yes I do - I bought it in the 1970's. It really makes marking things like pockets, darts, and other design details really easy. hope you like it too. |

Date: 1/15/11 11:46 PM I have one and use it all the time.
Let's not call it antique. I am not ready to have something in my possession that I bought brand new called an antique. I have not come to terms yet with patterns from the 80's called vintage either.

Date: 1/16/11 2:35 AM I bought one on eBay a few weeks ago (I talked briefly about it on my blog). For 99 cents, it was a steal! I haven't been sewing since I'm back from vacation, but I really cannot wait to use it. I'm also glad to read that others love theirs ------ Surgeon General says: "Ten yards a day keeps the blues away."

I know, right?! Eighties anything isn't vintage to me, either!
I guess the Tack-It isn't really antique. I hate to call it vintage, though.
It looks so useful. I can't wait to try it. Thanks everyone!

Date: 1/16/11 12:41 PM I have a similar item, but mine holds chalk on both sides so you do not need carbon paper. I found it at a Thrift Shop that tends to have lots of great sewing things. I have also bought Singer button holers there for all of 99 cents. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student |

Date: 1/16/11 12:43 PM I have a tack-it from a thrift store. I don't do a lot of that kind of marking, but it has occurred to me that, as Michelle says, one with chalk on the ends would be infinitely easier to use. Cool item, though! ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 1/17/11 8:20 AM Ooh, Michelle,
I would like to see a photo of your gadget, and what's the name of it?? And when can I come to BC and go to the thrift store with all the nifty stuff?
