Date: 1/24/11 0:41 AM It's time for the first 2-week Challenge Contest of 2011 -- I will be your contest manager and will be checking in several times a day for each day between now and the end of the contest.
If you have any questions, post them here in the thread. I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with for this one.
Pattern Review Challenge Contest: Look Alikes
February 1 through 14, 2011
This is a contest to create Look Alike clothing! Make clothing for two or more different 'people', and submit a picture of both wearing their clothing at the same time. Examples are mother / daughter outfits, friend / friend, child / doll, person / pet.
The items must look alike in a substantial way, not merely co-ordinate. That does not mean that the items have to be identical. Example: a Hawaiin shirt for a father, and a Hawaiin dress for the daughter done from the same fabric.
*Rules that apply to all contests:
1. All reviews must be entered for submission by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the contest. Contest dates will be listed for each contest.
2. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the ontest. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.
3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!
4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.
Contest Eligibility
1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter.
2. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the end of a contest is eligible to vote in a contest.
3. Any member who's won 1st place in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous 4 months is ineligible to win another contest (for that 4 month period). ------ Sheila

Date: 1/24/11 0:42 AM I'm going to try to sew along for this one -- have some ideas but will have to look through the stash and see what I can come up with.
Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Date: 1/25/11 2:53 PM Sounds like a great contest, I can think of some fun ideas.
Ironically, I just finished a top for my daughter and I intend to make the same top for myself (same pattern and fabric), so it will be identical.
Since I already finished DD's top, that set won't be eligible. :(
Also, we are moving the second week in Feb, so I'm thinking it isn't a good time to plan on sewing much.
I really want to see what everyone comes up with, though!
Happy sewing.

Date: 1/25/11 3:40 PM I'm not going to enter this contest but I have a couple of candidates I'd like to nominate: next door to our next door neighbor are two older (at least mid-60's) women who must be sisters. They dress EXACTLY ALIKE EVERY DAY. They even have the same purses that they wear strung across their bodies in the same way. Same shoes. Same socks. If they wear jeans, they have the cuffs turned up the same amount.
It's kinda freaky...but don't let this influence you...LOL ------ Sewing is my therapy! |

Date: 1/26/11 12:31 PM Actually, the Hawaiian shirt for Dad/Hawaiian dress for daughter is a very timely idea, since that's exactly the kind of shirt I'm making for the Men's Shirt Sewalong. I might be able to squeeze out a little sundress from the fabric leftovers.
Love the idea for this contest!

Date: 1/31/11 2:30 AM After packing up a lot of stuff over the last few days, it looks like we'll have about 2 more weeks before we need to move, and we'll have about 7 days to move the stuff.
I have been planning on making a dress for spring for DD, it is the only fabric I didn't pack :p. After looking at the pattern, I thought I could replicate it out of the scraps for a doll, too, and make a little valentines day present for her out of them.
So I think I may join in this project. It will all depend on the move schedule over the next 2 weeks.
In any case, I hope to sew along some, and look forward to seeing lots of cute look-alikes! ------ Sewing is more than my hobby, it is my art.

Date: 1/31/11 8:12 AM Hi SheBear0320,
If you click on "All contests" and then the "Discuss" link, it takes you to the wrong discussion forum. It shows "2011 Contest Manager Call" instead of this one. |
